The coming green scourge. Am I condemned to a mycelial wasteland?
    #22244813 - 09/16/15 08:31 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Howdy all,

Hope you're all well.

I have already lost two Treasure Coast and one Pan Cyans ice-cream containers which have subsequently been planted in the garden to green forest mold. Now, I have put together two mono tubs, one TC, one PC (different strains to the infected) and they've been on the go for almost two weeks. The TC looks fine still but creeping about the surface of the PC Mono looks to my eyes the same damn scourge.

Is she lost fellow shroomerites?
Further, I'm curious where I went wrong. Sparing you a wall of text…

SAB, Gloves, Simple Green, Iso Alcohol, flame sterilised scalpal, PC
Dog food agar --> brown rice w/ coffee + gypsum in bags/jars/containers --> pasteurised cow and roo poo w/ gypsum and verm
Followed all sterilising, pasteurising procedures + a lil extra. One or two fumbles in the SAB but that couldn't be it. Encountered trich in one substrate bag out of 20 + separated substrates. Aside from that the ice-cream tubs were the first encounter with the ravenous green.

Also these are still in the spawning stage, I haven't cased + exposed to fruiting conditions yet.

An act of the Mushroom Goddess reminding me to remain humble and patient?

Anything and all is appreciated.

I have yet to grow pan cyans yet, but want to badly someday...

I don't believe there is any saving you from the green here, but let's look into this for future.
If ur doing your sterile technique correctly and following the process as mentioned above I wouldnt think your problem started there...

However, in looking at your casing container I see there is quite a bit of condensation on the spawn... Do you know what the temperature is inside there? Have you been opening up and misting it?
Condensation is normal, but I get my best results when it isn't present on my spawn or at least is very minimal.

Are your tubs sitting on carpet? Trich and cobweb have been major issues for me when I sit things directly on the carpet. I have never had new carpet however, and older carpet build ups oodles of shit:thumbdown:

Check this out:thumbup: http://www.themushroompeople.com/showArticle.asp?id=217
I came across this a few weeks ago
Some of the info is a ill shotty but look at the temperature suggestion:thumbup:

I also have had bad luck with plastic wrap. Is this what ur covering with? Try using a lidded container maybe  the search engine will bring up numerous "liner" and "mono tub" grows which may resembles yours the best.  Find a successful one and take a read through that.

Good luck:sporedrop:

Hiya confuzzed, I apologise for the delayed reply, it was not out of disregard, just a few hindrances. Also, I was to post it yesterday but lost what I had written ahaha

They're strange and beautiful, almost otherworldly; physically, I haven't experienced them yet. When contemplating what spores to purchase they were always the constant first choice haha.

Yeah no, in the days it has taken me to reply, it has become rampant and in the TC tub too, unfortunately :frown:.

I need a few more hours of research and although you stimulated thoughts concerning possible improvement to my sterile technique! where I DO need to be more precise, however, I think, is the pasteurisation of my poo. Frank's Proper Pasteurization Tek 3.0 has possibly illuminated my downfall. Long story short, pasteurising in bags which I did, requires an accurate substrate core measurement and a certain vigilance to fluctuating temps more than I realised.

"a partially sterilized substrate is often as shitty as an unpasteurized substrate."
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17246844

Furthermore, yeah I have no idea of the temperature or humidity inside the mono and I haven't opened it up and misted it once (I must invest in a temp and humidity measure). On that note, with your linked article, It states that there is a temp spike around day 8-10, would it be more beneficial to open up the tub for a few hours or add to the moisture content by misting?
Your part on maintaining minimal condensation yourself is wonderful advice, thank you.

In respects to carpet, they are not. They're sitting on a desk/bookcase above wooden flooring. Despite that though, if the passages in the article concerning dust is accurate and if somehow green mold spores are entering the house and/or as you suggested stemming from an old carpet (which we do have in another room) into the grow room via dog or people that could most definitely be a possible contamination point.

Oh really? Yup I'm using plastic wrap to cover. That is great to know! I couldn't find the lids/broken but I'll have another dig around.

I was mirroring a Mono Tek or two but when I jump back on the horse I'll follow Frank's Tek precisely. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17447797/fpart/all/vc/1
And, I still have a few brown rice sub bags left!

Mate, I really dig and appreciate your response.

Once I get to the finish line, I'll post my results.

Take care.

I don't think you necessarily went wrong anywhere...

It's a pathogen and the spores were obviously in the air.

It's gonna take quite a bit of cleaning to make sure it doesn't happen again though.

It's usually best to get rid of them early on as possible (if you can) so it won't sporulate all over the place.
