New Agar Tek?

In microbiology I use a whole lot of Pyrex containers to mix and transfer medium to Petri dishes. Given I don't have a flow hood, but am fairly lazy, I decided to mix what I know works with mycology. I purchased a Pyrex 2 Liter easy pour container with lid filled it with 1 liter of agar then filled the spout with polyfil and covered it entirely with tin foil.

I then PC'd it for 45 minutes at 15 PSI, let the PC cool without venting then placed the warm container into my SAB. I waited another hour or so until it was managese then removed foil and polyfil. No condensation in my Pyrex container!
I then poured 18 Petri dishes in my SAB, covered it for the evening to allow the agar to cool and firm.
Tomorrow I will inoculate some but wrap all of the dishes in paraffin.

Which part is the tek exactly? Sounds like you're pouring agar into no-pour containers basically.

Hahaha... I was drunk. I felt like I was McGyver.
Instead of cutting a mason jar to pour, I'm just using this with polyfil in the spout until it makes its way to my SAB.

It worked very well and made the whole pouring to Petri dish experience drunk pretty enjoyable.

Well if those plates are all clean in 2-3 days I guess you can call it a success.

36 hours post pour. 2 plates with condensation but otherwise so far so good. No visible contamination.

Cool.
I've been wanting to get a large pp5 bowl I can load up with pasty plates. Would cut way down on the amount of aluminum foil I go through.

Some PP5 microwaveable soup containers come with spouts for easy pouring into dishes.

You can have a filter on these so you can sterilize and let partially cool in a SAB or in the PC or microwave until its at a pouring temp. If you can just about stand the heat holding it for a while then its at about the right pouring temp. You can give it a small swirl as the core will be hotter than the outsides.
1L into 18 petris is a lot of agar.

hahaha, I have yet to try it. Better picture of the spout in this one.

tesco is a UK supermarket brand, and that is a "finest" range, which is better quality than standard "own brand" and often more expensive than branded stuff. Usually comes in better more sturdy containers too.

Yeah, I overfilled a few and decided to stop when I finished a sleeve. I probably had enough for another 6 with what was left but decided it wasn't worth opening a sleeve. 2 of the plates in my pack of 20 flipped in my SAB so I decided not to use them.
Soooo... Probably not a complete success but not bad.
I like the plastic container with spout! Great idea. Perhaps I'll try that next time around.
