Crimini Substrate

Hello,
I would like to grow Crimini / Portabello and White Button at home for personal consumption (limited space suburb).
As RR mentioned that they require composted substrate, I'm looking forward to buy compost from my local Home Depot. Following are two types of compost at are readily available from HD.
1. Eco Scraps 2. Miracle Grow
I understand that horse manure compost is best for compost loving shrooms but above are my only hope in urban area. Will those work?
For casing, my local HD has Miracle Grow Peat Moss. The bag says that it has nutrients (as opposed to mushroom casing should not have any). Would that work as a casing?
Also, do I need to pasteurize them (both compost and peat moss) before I spawn compost with mycelium?
Thanks.

you're going to get better responses asking in the proper forums(gourmet and medicinal). would suggest researching more because there is a lot of info already to draw from.
isn't miracle grow like fertilizer? you don't need that shit it's probably really harsh. Research what RR was talking about -- hint: he probably didn't buy compost from home depot!!
of course you will have to pasteurize compost to make a 'substrate' for your myc.
also I live in washington DC a huge metropolitan city and I can find horse poo from 10 different places, so don't assume. try: craigslist search: horse manure
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night
