The spores are fresh, they'll have no trouble germinating. Make your agar on the wetter side anyways. That's always smart to do when germinating. The recipe I use for germination is:
500 ml water 7.5 grams agar 10 grams malt extract
Once you get germination and then transfer to acquire a clean culture, you'll be a few steps away from all the PE you can fruit. To put into perspective how much one can expand resources, I went from one small plate of PE mycelium to literally dozens of swabs(could've taken 100s) in a few months. All one needs is a little clean growth, and your own resources become the limit.

you could swab 10 plates or more from a swab but after swabbing agar the swab has agar on it and it's not going to be great to re-store after that

Maybe that's my problem I tend to make my plates stiffer, thanks I'm about to test out that recipe. Could be why I have such a hard time germinating spore solution. I normally do 500ml/10g/10g My cooker holds 25 pp5 plates. I'll probably dedicate 12 to a swab and the rest to my current plates in need of transfers. Save the other swab for another day.

well i was attempting to bring back this 2003 stropharia misnomered cubensis print i had. also note the original prints were taken from a cntaminated tub. so check out the first grow in 2003. i wasn't expecting much as far as germination but it actually germinated rather quickly.
from this thread.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22242576/vc/1#22242576
pulled these pics from old omc websites from 2003.

i had contams on my first run(hit right at the heat wave of summer). so i did 2 more tubs. multispore from 12 year old prints didn't produce the best genetics. but, i have clone specimen. had to work her on some antibiotic agar. it delayed the grow waiting to get someantibiotics. so it took a few weeks to delay the update on this.
im hoping to take some prints on the next run. maybe even 2nd flush. but shes a beauty.

then we have some tiger drops from left to right: KSS, PE, Pan Jamaica, P. Tamps, ATL7

last but not least, some cornmeal mush plate liquid inoculant showing leap off on day 2. and from eye, it appears that its going to be slightly faster than regular LI. i can already see that it has many more points of inoculation. im hoping to get some fully dense growth by day 4.

probably why I CANNOT get my pan cyan to germinate on a plate... def gonna try.
As far as agar, I always have a problem with condensation, you guys ever wait a couple days till most of the condensation/h20 is gone before transferring or inoculating?

yes. also, sometimes if you can't get the spores to germinate. adding them to some sterile water. allowing the spores to hydrate for a few days sometimes helps with stubborn prints/spores ect.

I started waiting until the agar begins to cool and solidify a little in the bottle before I pour... it really cut down on the condensation.

Supposedly if you let your pp5's sit and allow the agar to cool after pouring with the lids off it's suppose to cut down on condensation. "results may vary" Idk though my ADD doesn't ever allow me to wait that long haha I'm cooking some up in the morning and will test this out, let you know the results.

I'll clear up that supposedly for you.
It doesn't. 30 plates and still condensation.

Yeah, I've let them cool all the way before and brought the PC up slowly and nothing worked (brought it down slowly too). The only thing I've done so far to help is if there's a little water left in there, swirling the plate around before inoculation knocks the condensation off the wall.
