Denver, Colorado, is at a higher altitude than Los Angeles, California. Which of these statements is correct?
You answered "Water boils at the same temperature in both Denver and Los Angeles."
The correct answer is "Water boils at a lower temperature in Denver than Los Angeles."
When the water boils it will be at 212 degrees regardless of altitude right? In Denver you could get it boiling with a lower heat coming from the burner, but if you had a thermometer in the water it still wouldn't boil until it reached 212 or am I wrong about this?

Yes you are wrong. The boiling point of liquids depends on the pressure of its environment. Water boils at 212° at sea level. As you go up in elevation, air pressure decreases and boiling points lower. The boiling point of water at the top of Mount Everest is 160°

Guessed on the boiling question though, I remembered that lower pressure changes the boiling point I just couldn't remember if it was a higher or lower temp
But I still got it right so screw you guys, I'm going home

Conceptually you can reason it pretty easily. Boiling water is water escaping from the liquid and becoming gaseous in the air above it. If there is more air above it pushing down then its harder to escape. If there is less air above the liquid pushing down, its easier to escape.

For every foot of water you go down, the boiling point of water rises about 1°
If you had a column of water 100ft tall, you would have to heat the bottom of the column it nearly 300° to get it to boil. This is due to the pressure exerted by water above. However, as that 300° water at the bottom begins to cause water at the top to boil off very fast and you have a chain reaction where there is now less pressure at the bottom and you get an explosive vaporization of the entire column of water. This is how geysers work.

Its not a church, no matter how much you want it to be. This is the typical lameness of counterculture.

It was so easy, I thought it would be hard but it wasn't.
"You answered 12 of 12 questions correctly."
I didn't even have to think about most of them, they were so obvious. But to a non scientific person or someone not familiar with optics, astronomy or a few other things might have missed one or two. No shame in that. For example I simply remembered who made the polio vaccine.

It's a mixture of naive trust of every thing that leaves any scientists mouth coupled with a complete lack of regard towards subjects that scientists haven't found any proof towards... Experiences are proofs that cannot be quantized, yet they are basically shunned from scientific regard because of that fact. It is a sense of rigidity and overly logical approach.
And don't get me wrong, I love science and the fruits it yields... I just think people go too far with what isn't truly science and is more of a social construct built up around it.
