Didn't think i should post in the active thread with this...
I've been eyeing this spot since spring. It is full of the grass in this picture and other weedy type plants. There are a lot of chips, but they aren't real deep and a lot are quite old. It has been producing several species throughout the year, but I've never seen an active. It's not irrigated.
The field is on top of a very wide plateau, at the foot of a larger hill/geographic formation.
What do y'all think, based on the vegetation and description of this location fruiting? In the north Willamette valley

Yeah it looks like a good place to look for P. cyanescens. Do you know what kind of wood those chips are made from?

I say it looks good to me. I took a picture of some mulch that I am pretty confident about. I have numerous spots chosen for this season. I moved back here after almost being gone for a decade. I caught the very tail end of last season and found a monster patch of Stuntzii in Whatcom County. I noticed the saprotrophic mushrooms really love grey mulch. Which is to say they love mulch that has been left to decay for quite some time.
Right now I am wondering if beauty bark and deciduous mixed mulch is a waste of time or not. I was going to make a post about it but if anybody could let me know that would be nice.
What do you think of this?

What species are you looking for? If you're looking for Ps.cyans I've found them in many different environments; wild and urban but without a doubt the biggest hauls have always come from manicured/maintained environments where large amounts of wood chip (not bark) have been used as a garden mulch. That's not to say that your spot won't produce anything, it may well do, but I'd look for formal rose, rhododendron or other garden borders if quantity is a concern. Woodlovers can be surprisingly urban mushrooms, I live in a capital city and rarely, if ever, leave town when hunting them.
