Drying P.Cubes using a desiccant Chamber. How much silica gel should I use?

Hi!
2 days ago I harvested my first flush of GT strain P.Cubes, see here:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22232756
Drying:
Ive fan dried the shrooms for 24 hours and then put them in my homemade desiccant chamber which i made out of a tupperware box (air tight) two layers of mesh supported on plastic cups and 7 silica gel sachets. The mushrooms are on the top layer with the silica gel on the layer below. The cups then separate the silica gel from the bottom of the tupperware.
How many silica gel sachets should I use for roughly 175g of fresh which equates to roughly 18g of semi dried mushrooms? Should I open the sachets and put the crystals on the first mesh layer or leave them in the sachets? Should i put the box in a dark room or in sunlight? Where is optimum?
Once cracker dry can i store them in a zip lock bag and then place them in an old screw lid illy coffee pot which isnt transparent? How long will they last? I dont really want to freeze them if I dont have to.
Thanks

So I would put a small saucer or tray in the bottom, and open your desiccant packs up, pour them in. Or go to the store and buy damp rid...its a tub of the same shit. Put a quarter inch layer in the bottom. Check on your crackers in a few hours...if the silica is completely goop, add a little more. If not, you have some left for evaporation. Leave a fan blowing indirectly and it will help wick moisture from the desiccant. Ive dried fruits this way before very efficiently.

I would fan dry for 48 hours at least instead of 24.
How much desiccant you'll need is a difficult question to answer. Use as much you can, better safe than sorry. Keep in mind if the desiccant has already been used or exposed to open air more than briefly you'll probably need to redry it first by heating it.
Freezing temperatures are the only way to stop degradation of all the actives completely but if you're planning to use the mushrooms within a few months I don't think it's going to make a noticeable difference.

If you need something now, you can get DampRid refill from Home Depot. It's not well documented, but it is rechargeable. There is a temperature that it will destroy the desiccant, so keep the oven below 400 if you intend to recharge.
You can also use epsom salt, which can be purchased from many places. Epsom salt needs to be dried out before use in the oven, and can be recharged and reused countless times.
Get as much as you can fit in your chamber without risking it touching the mushrooms. I personally use a thick foam liner between the desiccant and mushrooms to ensure that accidental falls do not risk the mushrooms touching the desiccant. My chamber is about 80% full of desiccant. It dries very quick and cracker dry.
