It looks like chicken of the woods on top, but it is gilled.

Yes. The second pic mushrooms do smell like anise.

The gills on an oyster run all the way down the stem, and just to ease your mind, as far as I know, oysters have no deadly/poisonous look a likes . Wait for a TI to tell me I'm wrong though lol

I had my mother-in-law smell each and confirmed they smelled like anise :-).

I am like stevo though, I'll probably wait for a TI to be sure.

some have a pronounced nutty flavor when fried well in butter.  and that's a good note to remember about oyster fungi; cook them well.
