What is a "real" man? * 1
    #22240243 - 09/15/15 08:41 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I have not yet jumped back in the dating pool, but some 5-10% of females on dating websites such as Match.com state that they would like a "real" man.

First off they must also want a telepathic man that can determine their specific qualities for such.

If they are referring to a tall, strong, successful alpha male, well they are unlikely to be on a dating site unless it is targeting a niche audience. Most men and women on dating sites are likely to be bravo and charlie males and females.

Women also want a man unafraid to show his feelings, but real men don't show their feelings, but they are awesome with a six gun.

Also real men don't take any shit from their women.

If you're not sure what a real man is, just do the opposite of what you would normally do. There's a Seinfeld episode that illustrates this clearly. Thank me later

Reminds me of the thread I started the other day; there's probably more definitions of what a 'real' man is than 'real' men themselves!

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

Real men, such as pro athletes, cops, men in power, etc.; are far more likely to cheat on their spouses, beat and kill them, than fake wussy men.

Chicks dig bad boys, but are always surprised when they cannot tame them.

That is a very astute observation.

Even then you end up trying to define what people mean by a man. I assume that is referring to to traditional gender roles, which are dissolving slowly as time passes. I'm pretty sure that statement will be obsolete in time.

I think women need to lower their expectations and face reality. You're lucky enough to find someone with enough in common to have a relationship with. You're in no position to be picky.

I don't know if this is the misogynist in me coming out, but that really resonates with me.

I burned my hand picking up a hot lawn mower by the hot muffler.  Only a little third degree but the second degree blisters were immediate.  I didn't even cry although I wanted to.

Does that make me a real man, wanting to cry?

A real man believes nothing and just takes the brunt of life if necessary, blaming no one, not even himself, for his troubles.

A real man would not have even mentioned the event.

Pretty much. It's a meaningless saying for people who are either too inarticulate to say what they want out of a partner, or are completely clueless on what they want.

I have the idea that a real man is someone who doesn't need a woman to be the source of his happiness.

It might go with the bad boy thing, but I think it's just human to desire something that isn't easy to obtain.  If a man needs external love to feel fulfilled and relies on his mate to provide that, I feel like its a big put-off to women, maybe not initially but more long term. At least in my experience.  But if you're confident in yourself and what you want out of life, that will come across, i think, as you being a 'man'

If you don't need a woman then why would you want a woman?
