Breaking a pc vacuum
    #22239085 - 09/14/15 10:47 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

So my pc holds a wicked ass vacuum.

Exactly how should I be releasing pressure? Put an ISO soaked paper towel over the nipple and let it suck air in through it? Cause I tried that and either I didn't wait long enough or it wasn't able to suck any air through.

Also if I release the vacuum too quickly it inflates bags, even if they're cool 24hrs after the cycle. Any tips or tricks?

I've got sleeves in my bags but I'd rather keep them from sucking anything in if possible. Since my pc holds a vacuum can I skip the sleeves since the bags will seal on themselves?

My pc is too big to open in front of my hood so there's that fact to consider.

What kinda PC holds a vaccum like that? Model make? Does it have a rocker weight or a valve? Does it have a pressure indicator? Post a pic

AA941. No stopcock just the weight but it holds a proper vacuum. Yes it has a gauge.

If I were to just yank the weight off you can hear a rush of air into the pc for aat least 15-20 secs.

I think if ur worried about contams getting in u should go sealed with the bags. Also I'd go with the iso soaked rag on the vent.pipe just after its cooled enough but hot enough to not start the vacuum

Your bags and jars are going to come into contact with open air sooner or later. Seal your bags if they are inflating.

Dont all pressure cookers suck in a little air as they cool?

Yes but my issue is mine holds a full vacuum so it doesn't gradually equalize. If I yang the weight off the bags will inflate and I'm trying to find a reliable way to slowly equalize pressure while not sucking dirty air into my bags.

If they inflate then the seal they have around the tyvek sleeves will likely be broken and they will have sucked in dirty air.

Thats a tough one then. Is there a room where you can run a flowhood for a long time with the door closed to scrub the air and minimize contamination. Have you tried super gently lifting the weight or does the force of the air rushing in force it to lift up and completely equalize every time.

Solution...= jars my man. Similar threads I've found all lead to using.jars for spawn my self have never.used bags but never.had that issue with jars. My PC I used to use was an aa but it wasn't mine. Mine is a presto with a auto vent that drops when pressure is low enough

I just seal my bags. I remove all the air I can from em and then I seal the opening with gorilla duct tape.
I don't understand the tyvek sleeve and it's probably a better solution I just don't know the difference

Yes they inflate if I were to yank the weight off and equalize quickly. After 24hrs I would imagine that the temps are equal. I don't think the bags are remotely warm but maybe it's a possibility theres a degree or two diff from being such a large heat mass.

I run my 941 in a shed on a gas burner. I cannot transport the full thing to any other room.

Gas burners work great. I recently got a 941 with the same issue. Even when the pc is cool to the touch it still has a vacuum. I've had the same problem. I've thought of nothing else but to pull it at the same time as my other 941 is depressurized as a relative comparison but that still makes me worry. :/ I'm just going to get the sterilizer attachment next paycheck and avoid the whole trouble.

Good idea. That's why I stay cheap I don't have that prob. And the gasnburnermjust seems sketchy to me. Idk. I'd do a big electric one.on the.counter before I'd go propane burner.

All Americans are much heartier than your standard aluminum presto and can be run on outdoor burners. Don't try it with a Walmart pc.

The stopcock is still gonna make a vacuum my man and you're still gonna have the issue of where/how to equalize.

You could try turning the heat on again. Once the air expands it should equalize the vacuum.

Haven't seen a quadruple post in a while..  My AA never has this issue, I pull the weight when the gauge is 0 and it expels a little bit of air, any air it sucks in is pretty slow, but I also don't use bags.
