In vitro cultivation
    #2223802 - 01/06/04 07:05 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

The problem, as i see it, with in vitro growing is that that there isn't enough room for the mushrooms to grow in a halfpint jar so you get smaller yields. What would happen if I used a polyfill lid on a full pint jar and only filled it half-way with verm/brf and let it grow? Do you think there is a huge risk of air-born contaminants or would the steam sterilization take care of that? If not then there would be a lot more space for the mushrooms to grow. What do you think?

Dude, the mushrooms dont grow in the jar, the mycelium does. You want as much mycelium as possible.

>Dude, the mushrooms dont grow in the jar...

Hmmm, take a look at this tek... it may change your mind.

shroom_muncher - your description would allow more room assuming the shrooms "felt like" growing from the top of the substrate. As this tek illustrates, they grow as they please. And without a dry layer of verm and using steam sterilization, your risk for contams just multiplied.

Yeah a polyfill top is a good idea. And every day you could tip the jar to let co2 seep out. You'd have a lil more room for fruits to grow but your flushes won't be too much better.

And they sell invitro 'kits' here www.mushmush.nl . Yields aren't huge but it's a pretty much foolproof way of growing and they can be easily concealed..

Im using a large jar just as you describe, its colonizing faster than my pints and no contams yet using polyfill in the lids.

Yes, invitro growing is good way to go about going, in my opinion way less chance of contamns. I only do it with stalled jars and contamned jars now though  But it sure does work (even with contamned ones)
I get decent yields usually around 40 grams wet, so im happy

hi,
1 simple question, if you use a pint jar and only fill half of it, you dont put a dry layer of verm? and how do you innoculate? if the needle doesnt reach to the substrate?
thanks is advance

Spray on, instead of inject in. It will still work, just SLOWLY.

The best way to grow in the jars is still not invitro, the best way is to allow full colonization, take off the cap, and case the top. Tape of the sides of the jar to avoid the invitro shit
and grow off the top!
