Looks like maybe trich?  Can you smell the jar safely?

The best idea when dealing with any contaminant is to PC the jar, chuck the contents, then try again.

You might want to wait for someone with a little more experience to confirm that before you chuck anything, but that gray worries me.

Did you PC the jar?

I'm unfortunately still doing steam sterilization, going to invest in a nice PC soon.
Everything else was done in a glovebox

I would chuck it. theres no saving from a contam. Also if you can only steam sterilize I would only deal with half pints, what is that a pint? Also you're supposed to have a verm layer ontop of the pf mixture, unless youve got a sfd on the lid or something.

Yes do that. Get a presto 23qt its cheap online. USe either tyvek or sfd, synthetic filter disks. YOull get great results with either but sfds last a very long time. use either rye or wbs. I use wbs, I use foomans prep and it comes out perfect everytime. I do qt jar to bag transfers so I have to pressure cook 1-2 bags with 6-7 qts of wbs in them at a time. The presto fits them just fine. I taped 3 quarters ontop of the weight and now it rund quiter, uses less water and can pressure cook at 18psi. I do this for 2 hours for my bags.

If you feel like spending the money on an AA, I recommend the 930, you can fit 17 qt jars in it
