I recently inoculated some quart jars filled w/ organic whole grain rye. The mycelium was growing well but when I shook them I found these little white spots on the rye the next day. it doesn't look like mycelium, its been a few days and it doesn't look like it is growing. I have never seen this before. The jars were inoculated by a syringe that was over a year old. Anyone know what this could be. Am I just paranoid?
I've experienced something similar recently, I sterelized 6 jars of rye grain (previously soaked for 24 hrs) for 75 minutes at 15 psi and inoculated with choped agar. 2 days later pink/brown spots apeared on all the grains of all the jars. After 10 days, they were all fully colonized and showed no sign of growth from the spots. I transfered them on straw 4 days ago and still no signs of contamination... It was my 1st time using rye grain so I can't tell if its normal but it sure ain't slowed the growth for me!
