Psilocybe Azurescens Hunting Fall 2015

Hey all,
This is my first post and I'm glad to be a part of this community
This Fall I'm going to the mouth of the Columbia (Hammond OR) and I will be looking for P. Azurescens (for microscopy of course)
I know what I'm looking for P. Azurescens and possibly P. Cyanescens - if I find any - but I have an important question and just wanted to see if anyone is able to offer their help
It's about a six hour bus/train trip from where I live. I'll be sleeping up in Hammond a couple days while hunting around that area The problem I have is one my way back - how will I keep the mushrooms as fresh or dry as possible before I go to immediately put them in a desiccant container? They'll have to go into my backpack but I'm at a loss to decide on a container.
Should I bring desiccant with me to dry them at least a bit? I won't pick them until the day I'm ready to leave but will I have better luck trying to dry them in while I'm up there hunting or trying to transport them back in a pack?
Thanks in advance

Rent a car, talk a buddy into it, make friends that already go, but I don't think I'd attempt it by bus.

Thanks,
I'm guessing sealed glass containers wouldn't really do much to help the shrooms from rotting, as neither would plastic or I guess Tupperware. I could use a brown paper bag but still not the best. I had a lot of semi dry mushroom in a brown paper bag in a parked car for about five hours and they were ok, not amazing, but ok.
If glass would work lmk, otherwise I might even try honey? but that seems like a waste of time ha
If I find a ride I'll be much better of yah but I don't see it happening right now

Paper bag brotha. Something with ventilation. Dont let them rot in their own juice. It needs to evaporate somewhere. If you are lucky and its sunny, which somehow i doubt, id pick those suckers ehen you find em, bring back to your HQ wherever ur staying, and leave em in the sun somewhere unattended, while you continue doing whatever it is. Throw em on a roof wrapped in paper towels. Thats what id do at least. If its not sunny, id buy a space heater, and somehow plug it in in private and hang out for a few hours.

if you are staying anywhere with electricity just buy a cheap walmart food dehydrator once you get up there, and leave it behind. You are making all the effort, an additional $60 to protect your finds seems worth it to me. but maybe your are camping?
just be careful, i hear the OR cops post up looking for shroom hunters when the season comes around...

I personally like to use some kind of cereal or cracker box. Usually fits in a backpack pretty well. Helps keep them from getting crushed unlike a paper bag.
I have hunted for six hours at the coast with a two hour drive home. That means the first finds of the day have been in the box for close to 8 hours when I get home. I've never had a problem. If they are fresh they will stay mostly fresh as long as you are outside in their environment. If they are borderline mushy or rotten to begin with they stand a chance of getting worse but you wouldn't want the grubby ones anyway.
Try to keep your bag away from direct air flow from heaters on the bus if you can. That will be your biggest worry.
Don't overthink it...just go out and have some fun hunting. Everything else is gravy.

ok, I think I'll get the food dehydrator and rent a room my last night up there. Yea I watched Staments 98' presentation on youtube and he was telling everyone that Fort Stevens is perfect for Azurescens and he jokingly said 50% of Astoria's Police Dept. goes to busting people up there that time of year - its too bad really that's the way it is. They obviously know what grows up there and only there and know when too.
Ok so after dehydrating everything will be better off but I'll probably still dry em more when I get back.
If I don't get a dehydrator Ill try drying them with a 60watt bulb and black tee shirt spend a couple nights there drying and then storing in glass for my trip home.
oh yea, it'll most likely be raining while I'm up there, nothing like Juneau AK were it just pours 24/7 godamn, but the chance of a sunny day in Astoria's Octobers are slim...
and yet again if I don't get a place to dry em ill probably still be fine on the last day
thanks everybody

Tear the caps from the stems. Make splits in the caps to make them dry faster. Do something like this:

If you have a fan lightly blowing on them....they will be 70 - 90% dry overnight. That way you can transport them and not worry too much about them. Once you get home you can dry them however you wish. I air dry anyways and it works quite well for me.

Hey all,
sorry I missed your replies,
Anyways here's a contraption thing I built for my trip. Its coming up soon and I was able to get a train ticket rather than a bus so the trip back and forth will be much faster.
Check it out: its two fans running in the same direction hooked to a box. That's it. So at least it will give good airflow and steady transportation. It runs quietly and is battery operated (9volt battery). The pics are really terrible but hey it's not as dusty in person ha.

Now that's dedication, much respect for the experience going all that way to dry some mushrooms.
Brilliant.
-------------------- I give you the choice of 2 pills.
With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Thanks man,
I'll be updating this thread upon completion of my trip
I'll be sure to take some nice HD photos of the Azures up there and maybe some P. Cyanescens if I come across them.

The wife and I are heading up north for a variety of reasons. First trip will be around Fort Bragg. We usually find many interesting life forms and I will post some pics and perhaps do a bit of bragging.
