Need Help Identifying - Possible Caerulipes?
    #22233722 - 09/13/15 07:46 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat:
Found all of these growing on dead wood in a mainly deciduous forest near a water reserve in western PA. Most of the wood had moss growing on it and the shrooms were growing up through that, if not they were embedded into loose pieces of bark instead.

Gills:
White initially. Now that they are drying they are turning a slight pinkish color.

Stem:
1-3 inches long, 1-2cm thick, White at top and brownish grey at the base, smooth, solid, thin

Cap:
1-4cm, brown with dark central 'point' in the center, was gel-like when i picked them but as they are drying they are smooth and somehwat shiny, some were conical or nearly flat and upturned.

Spore print color:
First timer - didnt know about this before drying

Bruising:
Didnt notice any bruising yet

Other information:
I'm not a mushroom connoisseur so I lack a knowledge of other scents of mushrooms but I remember the distinct smell of some cubensis I had earlier in the year and these smell very similar.

These are whiter than the others

The left over pile of smaller specimens from the same mycelium group

Those are definitely not caerulipes. I'm not sure exactly what those are, but they are not an active species.

Did you take spore prints? You may have a mixture (none of which are Psilocybes).

Edit: Sorry, just realised that you didn't.

Yeah after they dried more the stems became super thin and definitely did not look like anything I was hoping for.

I really appreciate the time both of you took to help me out. Next time i'll be sure to take a spore print to help make IDing a little easier.

Thanks

That looks like quite a mixture, think I can see some Mycena sp. in there but difficult to tell. Nothing active though to my knowledge.
