i wouldn't wig out, i would do the math. :P
and like i said before it is a matter of bulb lifespan and potentially burning yourself on a hot fixture. i agree that 1 cfl will not make much of a difference.

if it is mushrooms you are growing though, i would say 50-100 lumens should be enough light to keep them vertical. change the bulb to a 8 = 40 watt cfl bulb. it will provide some 800 lumens. more then enough light and should be cool enough that the fixture will never become uncomfortable to touch.
watt wät/ noun the SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the power in an electric circuit in which the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere. It is an amount of energy used in an a out of time, not a measure of heat. But what do I know? I'm only an electrician.
i'm not saying watt is a measurement of heat, i am saying that a light fixtures ability to handle and dissipate heat is the prime consideration in providing it with a watt rating. a unit chosen for the simple reasons that it is the unit we use for the bulbs, and that makes it easy to know which bulb to chose.

Walmart does have 48" t8 two bulb fixtures for 15 buck.ballasts included. Just saying. Way more than enough light for any grow.

Ok, I see what you mean now, my bad, I thought you meant wattage meant heat. Lol. The socket's wattage is based on the size of the wiring within the lamp, the thickness of the conductors that pass the current to the bulb, and the temperature that the socket can withstand based on this and materials used for the socket. The main point here is any UL listed E26 socket lamp should have no problem running a petty 20 watt cfl. Watts/lumens are not that important to mushrooms as much as the correct spectrum. BTW if I come off like an ass hole that is not my intent, I just enjoy a good debate

So long story short look for continuous amperage consumption of the device.(anything.plugged into a wall socket). If its under 15 amps its good. Over is bad.

You should be okay if using a CFL.... However, it is generally smart not to use a bulb rated higher than recommened for it's fixture. This is because of possible overheating issues. After it's own for 12 hours feel the fixture and see if it's overly warm... if you are concerned get a new fixture. I use 30watt CFL's (Equivalent to 60watt incandescents)
I also gave some big as 300watt (600w uquiv)2700K CFLS for flowering plants. I use those round, clip on shoplights for fixtures. They get a little warm but not enough to worry me.
Another thing, I have used anywhere from 5000K - 8000K both CFLS and tubes for fruiting fungi and the work great. 6500 is suppose to be ideal. 12/12.............
