Question about Mycelium

is there a chance that myscelium could pull more than its "needed" nutrients from substrate and transfer it to the fruits? The reason I am asking is I understand that certain species of mushrooms are used to absorb harmful chemicals and elements. And I have heard not to eat mushrooms that have been growing by busy roads, or industrial parks. So basically is there a chance that if a substrate had massive amounts of caffeine, could that be absorbed by the mycelium and transfered to the fruiting body? thus yielding a fruit that contains caffeine?
And same as for many other compounds?

Are you considering using a straight, coffee substrate?

I grew some oysters about 10 feet from my pool and they ended up tasting like chlorine. Just saying.

exactly what im saying...if it doesnt work, why do they use certain species, including oysters and some amanitas to clean up ground polution and water soluable compounds? is it the sponge affect? or just those species?

well, I have done a little research, and for example, in coffee grounds, the mycelium breaks down the caffeine, thus rendering it ineffective, mycelium does that with MOST compounds, however there are some that do not get broken down, and can be absorbed into the mycelium ---> then found in the fruiting body, including arsenic.
There are actually a couple of current studies going on to determine if its the mycelium "preferring" to uptake the arsenic from the soil, or if it is just a high level in the soil to begin with. I would assume that if it was "preferred" uptake, then that could be changed. who knows tho...idk...thanks for the help anyways
