Liquid Culture Contaminated?

When I inoculate a test jar of grains with my LC, will contams typically appear before any mycelium will, or can contams appear a couple weeks into incubating with mycelium already present. (Granted that the jars are perfectly sterilized and inoculated.)
Experienced LC advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

They should appear rather quickly, usually along side the mycellium, or just in it's place entirely...
And if your grain jars are taking longer than 10-12 days to fully colonize(with a shake at 30%), then there is something wrong.

Perfect thank you. I never want to loose a batch of grains again due to carelessness. I use polyfill so i think after a few uses contams start to leak into my injection ports. So now i am going to start testing everytime after the first use.

I would say more than 9 times out of 10 you won't notice anything wrong with your LC even if something is wrong. Very few contamination will increase turbidity(cloudiness) or produce a smell(if you can smell thru the filter) or any other indication. sometimes it will be really obvious something went bad but in those cases if you did some microscopic examination chances are you would have more than one contamination in there.
the only way to really tell if the LC is clean is to do microscopic examination or run a test jar.
your best bet is to start the LC off with agar. an agar wedge that's visually inspected as a clean culture inoculating a LC in a sterile environment is the most fool proof. some people wouldn't bother testing their LC if they did this, it might bite them in the ass every once and a while.
spores to inoculate a LC I would personally test every time.
if you're using agar though and not growing 20+ tubs than LC will slow you down. if you're going through 100s of pounds of spawn LC can become really advantageous. with the way G2G transfers work you can easily eliminate LC from your workflow and go just as quick or quicker if you're skilled enough at g2g and agar work.

IME you'll see contams within a 3-7 days. I think two weeks is too long for a contam to show itself, could be exceptions to the rule, but as a general rule...

I like your agar idea, although it is another step, it insures safety. I am not a fan of g2g because I have to be way more sterile.I know that the lc are initially sterile, it is just that using them and letting them sit for a month or two has caused me issues.
Will using this GLC tek cause degeneration since i am cloning spawn? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6817701#6817701
