Patching a casing??

When your growing from a casing, what does it mean to patch it? Im familiar with growing from cakes but not really knowledgeble about casing. any help would be great! thanks guys :rasta:

You seek a 15% even mycelium breakthrough before putting to the fruiting chamber. It may take 1 to 4 patchings to get that.

Patching simply means put a small quantity of casing material over faster sections/zones of mycelium that appear through the casing. By doing so, you allow what hasn't appeared to catch up. This achieves an even casing "mend" and that means a more even pin-set for a better flush.

After incubating a casing, often aggressive patches of mycelium will peak through at certain parts of the casing. Patch casing refers to covering these areas with small amounts of casing material to achieve a more even pinset.

I mixed field capacity vermiculite 1 part to 2 parts colonised WBS.



Here's what it looked like 24hrs later.



Then I cased in field capacity 60% coir and 40% vermiculite pre-sterilised in the microwave, incubated, patched, put to the fruiting terrarium...that's it.
