As other have said, it's mind over matter.

Short of just being oblivious to their presence, they won't sneak up on you though. I think that's part of it for him. The fact that he'll never see it coming before it happens. Which is why I pick the jaguar as the land equivalent. It's powerful enough to do it and is a stalker that can sneak up on prey easily.

The crocodile may be able to sneak up on you, but I'd say that's a water animal and not a land animal. Outside of the water they lose their stalking edge.

wait are you saying that sharks don't sneak up or they do? If he's in an area with white sharks they most certainly are ambush predators - but they're looking for seals, and they make few mistakes(unfortunately to be mistaken for a seal usually means a nasty injury if you're lucky).  If you actually see a white shark I'd think you're safe because that's not how they hunt. They are curious and they don't always know wtf you are, so it doesn't shock me that encounters with them are more likely to end with them nibbling on your surf board because they don't have hands.

I can appreciate op's fear though. I dive and have been around sharks a fair bit more than the average person who isn't surfing/diving/in the water on the daily. I'm actually scheduled to dive a pretty awesome wreck tomorrow here in FL where there's been great white sightings lately and hearing that gets my blood pumping a bit because I've never encountered them before - but I'd much rather swim with one 112 feet under the surface near the sea bed where they're not hunting for prey than surf, the vantage point is much better.

I think you should do it zZZz, there's still basic safety precautions you can take like not going in the water if there's been recent sightings, not going at dawn or dusk or alone, so on and so forth. And attacks are so rare to begin with.

we have them too. they like to jack the mountain bikers off their bikes. go right for that neck kill. which all felines teeth are designed to cut between i want to say its the 1st and 3rd vert. of their main prey relative to their size. You just feel 4 daggers puncture your neck and massive paws wrapping around you claws out ripping you up. big cats are gnarly

I was saying that bears don't just sneak up on people, short of the person being oblivious to their presence. I've never heard of them actively trying to ambush humans.

I've had two decent sized sharks that could of taken my foot off circle around me before. Where your surfing depends on how sketchy it is, if your in south Africa or Australia its real sketchy but in FL its not that sketchy. Just gotta surf in large groups of people.

Pretty much. They blend in so well with the desert too. Never seen that movie/show, where does it take place?

Six Feet Under. Was on HBO for five or six seasons. By Alan Ball who did American Beauty and TrueBlood. About a family who runs a funeral home. Each episode starts with someone dying.
