Battled malware all day

So fucking annoying.
Basically I tried torrenting a game last night and today and ended up with at least 5-10 different malware programs.
So I start manually deleting them while doing several scans, had to restart my computer and when it came back on the screen was black! I could still see my mouse thankfully. I had to do some stuff in the control panel to finally see again. Continues deleting stuff. Got all of it except one asian program I couldn't read anything on.
Accidentally downloaded more stuff through that some how I waslked off and came back to 10 new malware programs that I just finished getting rid of.
Took like 2-4 hours at last if not 5-6 at least my computer is working again now, feels good.
-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Malwarebytes does the job pretty well, these were just some tryhard programs.
They make them more and more tricky to deal with.

This is why you don't download from untrusted sites and only when comments can confirm it's legit when it's on an open site.

Yeah thanks for the advice, I definitely should have just disconnected from the internet right away as I couldn't even get on it for a bit
I usually am pretty good about looking for comments but for some random older stuff there isn't any a lot of the time

You better hope you got it all and some of it isn't just super sneaky and staying hidden doing shit in the background like stealing your bank login information when you go to check your accounts, etc.
I've found after having my identity and bank cards stolen multiple times since the mid 90's that it is just safer and easier to completely reformat and reinstall windows then to trust your virus scanners and malware cleaners actually got EVERYTHING like they claim, especially since more then once I've had them fail.
p.s. I'm a computer engineer for my career so it's not like I'm a random clueless noob just praying all the protection software works. It is so very easy for a trojan to get embedded into your system and not be discovered.

Many things don't have reviews like I said earlier, I usually try to. Solid attempt at being condescending though

There is one left I can't get rid of, I think it is some kind of foreign music player or something though I probably should re set everything 2 b safe.

I had a pretty nasty one a couple days ago too. Luckily, it wasn't blocking the internet, or anti-virus software.
Seconded: Malware bytes is quite an impressive piece of software!

Keep backups of all your programs and data, along with the serial key for those programs. That way you can reformat and reinstall windows and then quickly restore everything.
Malwarebytes is good but make sure the check box is checked for root kits. It is unchecked by default.

It's odd to me that people these days really have issues with viruses and malware. I don't have anything protecting my computer (besides noscript/adblock which aren't really "protection") and I've had neither in years. The best protection is prevention and common sense. Maybe early on when the internet really started blowing up that model didn't work so well, but they use all the same tricks to infect your computer now as they did back then. They're all well known at this point.

I only recently started using a virus scanner on top of the default windows protection software, because now my girlfriend and my kids use my computer, and the woman likes to torrent us our shows and movies.
The best defense is being a smart net user. Be very careful when clicking around websites, especially watch out for those sneaky sites that make banners look like the button you are supposed to click to get to the next picture in a series, or the next page of an article. Check comments on torrent downloads. Dont download software without digging into what it REALLY is and does and the company that makes it, etc etc.
pirated sotware and music is a major source for virii and trojans, as are porn and porn sites. Dont click links in emails, etc etc etc. If you are really careful you shouldnt ever have a problem.

Well hadn't really considered that part of it.
No one but me uses my computer unless it's me telling my wife to go check a certain something on it. Otherwise I have my computer she has hers and no one else touches it. I've been into this shit for way too long to be able get screwed and duped.
I use only one private tracker (unless what I'm looking for simply isn't there, in which case I won't download without comments) and fake shit just does not exist there. All the other shit on websites begging me to click it or obviously sketchy sites, I just know better.
I know sometimes it's tempting, you've spent forever looking for one particular file that no one seems to have, and they do. I always walk away though.

Malware infestation.. do a reformat dude, chances are you are also infested with a rootkit which can be extremely hard to get rid of

That's what I've been doing, minus the backups. My computer is like on of those Tibetan sand mural things; a diatribe against permanence and material attachment. LOL!

So it took 5-6 hours to clean up. Couldn't you just work for 6 hours and buy the game? You tried to steal software and it fucked up your computer. Now maybe your banking info is not secure, maybe someone can watch you on webcam any time they want. Maybe they are remotely storing illegal files on your PC or using you as part of their evil bot army. Seems free and easy downloading comes with a price.
