Has anyone ever tried a really large monotub before?

I was actually thinking about it the other day while I was at Wal-mart. I saw a few plastic containers there that were in the 120L - 180L range. Basically they could hold 2-times the substrate volume of a normal mono without the substrate depth going over the 4" mark. Has anyone here tried this or does anyone know of a link to a post where someone has? If not, I'm honestly considering giving it a shot. I know the potential for failure here, and I know that there there could be a lot lost if it ends up getting contaminated, but I am honestly intrigued by this idea.

it's hard to get conditions right and that large amount of sub puts off a lot of heat creating bad conditions but great conditions for competitors, can be done but just know it has a much higher chance to fail.

Understood. If I do choose to give it a shot, would it be a better idea to go with a shallower than normal substrate depth? Say, 2.5"-3" instead of 4"?

I would do larger but... eh. The conditions actually held up pretty well in that one, but it's not as big as you were saying.

If those tubs are a lot taller than your average tub than that creates more airspace in the tub and you'll have to do a lot of tweaking to find the sweet spot. I've done a few of the 50 gallon tubs in my day. It was impressive after I got it all dialed in but it took a lot more maintenance.

I've done an outdoor grow in a broke down hot tub. That's about the strangest project I've had so far

this grower did a 50 gallon tub that was fully automated and got it dialed pretty good.

Honestly, I don't really mind misting and fanning. I've always misted and fanned in the past and it never really bothered me. I would add a third hole at the substrate level, and possible a second up high on the short side of the tub.

106 quart monotubs fruited inside of a humidity and temperature controlled environment

One solution to avoid the cooking of big substrates during spawn run when less than ideal conditions are had is to make the substrates half as thick as the standard average depth of four inches.

Yeah I get some fucking beat off of 105. I wouldn't go much larger than that with a 3" sub

I'm thinking, if it were any bigger than the tub I have, I'll just do a goddamn kiddie pool already. I put 13 jars of spawn in there, which is already a hefty investment.

I agree. With that much substrate, you would definitely need to go a little shallower on the depth.
