Sounds like a good one. I've only had one cactus trip where I felt much apprehension like that.

I'd like to try it but keep hearing a lot of batches are hit or miss... and considering how expensive cacti is compared to lsd or mushrooms I don't really want to buy cacti... Maybe some day.

Peyote grows naturally in the continental US and thus was easily accessible in the SW when people became interested in psychedelics. There wasn't the interest, knowledge or ubiquity of trichocereus plants in the US at that time, so they managed to avoid the attention of the authorities.
Given enough time, they may crack down on all those auction sites selling cuttings of bridge, pach etc. and another loophole will be closed. Just about the time that Vice publishes an article about how awesome it is that you can buy cactus online and trip, that will be the sign that the crackdown is coming. Everything is fine until it goes mainstream.

For some reason even today trichocereus remain obscure. Even when I tell friends about them who are all like "damn I'd give my left nut to try peyote", they just kinda gloss over and don't seem interested when you tell them about san pedro. I don't really get it, but it's probably a good thing in the long run. Plus here in California, it would be extremely difficult to eradicate them all. It would be unfair too because they are important parts of many landscapes of people who don't even have any idea what they are.

Yeah, just look for "san pedro" aka trichocereus pachanoi, they straight up sell them at nearly every decent nursery in the US. Some places they sell out quickly, and they can be expensive and small in places with cold climates when, especially for the weak ass predominant cultivar that you're getting.

Call me crazy, but I think theres a ittle conspiracy to as why cactus is still legal.
I believe that the "elites" or whoever is in charge, knows that mescaline is just so "non-recreational" and "healing" that they would feel immoral to make it illegal. I believe they think along the lines of "i know were assholes and take away all your drugs...but this mescaline..this stuff right here...fucking have it. its too awesome. just take it..use it because god knows you cant abuse it.."

I don't see them cracking down on people who have old PC pedros in landscaping, but I could see them cracking down on those selling cuttings online if there was some stupid ass hipster media expose on how easy it is to buy cuttings and brew em up that went viral and there was a sudden mescaline fad. Just look what happened with all the MHRB and ACRB vendors, and you know it's only a matter of time before some states start outlawing kratom. Quote:

I think it's more the puritanical strain of Christianity that fears all native, shamanic plants as some kind of devilry/black magic that leads to the outlawing of entheogenic plants. Just more of the same old oppression of native religion.

that's what Im saying.
I think mescaline is kind of the thing "they taunt us with. The love sleeping at night knowing "the secret" is totally legal and hardly anybody knows it. They love to think they are hiding the secret in plain sight from us. That's what they live for.
^^ that, plus them just knowing that mesc is so awesome and un-abusable that they feel the need to keep it legal, like I said in the other post.
now of course I could be totally wrong completely...its just a little theory of mine.
seriously though, I bet mescaline just flew under the radar and "they" left it alone because its not a threat.

How often do you see mescaline on the street? Mescaline cacti are slow growing and it takes a shit-ton of material to make a single dose, even with peyote, you're talking 10-30 plants that took at least 3-5 years to grow. There's no money in that.
During the 60's and 70's when there was mescaline on the street, all those fucking bastards were going out and raping the deserts, taking plants from nature and selling them or extracting them; the boomers ate up all the grandfather peyote and then when it was gone they just switched to LSD and the synthetic phenethalymines and mescaline became a whimsical memory of the glory days past for most people.
Nowadays there isn't any big operation making tons of mescaline because nobody ever grew their own when it was produced commercially. With the time, land and resources invested to make a thousand dollars worth of mescaline you could probably grow 10 thousand dollars worth of weed or make 100 thousand dollars worth of meth. It's simple economics. Mescaline is a high cost, low demand product so nobody bothers producing it on a large enough scale for the government to see it as a threat.
Sure, you can pay a pretty penny for some HCL on the darknet and NAC members and small time hobbyists are growing peyote or trichocereus for personal use, but that it such a small percentage of the drug market that it is the least of the government's concern as far as drug policy goes, some states even make that legal. I happen to live in one that has religious exemption on the books.
There's no great conspiracy as to why they don't crack down on mesc, it's because nobody is making a bunch of money off mesc. As of now it the use of it is just too rare and low profile. If it gets too popular and starts getting the wrong kind of press, you can guarantee a crackdown though. If people do start making some money off it, making huge pedro farms etc. then watch how quickly it all gets shut down.
That's in conservative states of course, I could easily see there being a wave of religious exemption laws like the medical marijuana thing for psychedelics, they're already in a gray area in Oregon, Arizona and a couple other states where you theoretically are allowed to have peyote for religious purposes. Whether or not that will stop the cops from busting down your door is entirely a different story, but it's a step in the right direction.
