I actually touched the crap prior.. so that might have been the problem, youre onto something!
In all seriousness these were old plates that I didnt chuck that I took transfers from - this run of menace might not make it, judging some of the transfers, to fruiting but i gave it a go from an MS syringe. practice makes perfect. we'll see if i can pull a clean strain from what I have. they were 1st gen, the ones I have going now are 3rd but still trying to weed out the contam, I might just start over.

What do you think is the problem? Bacteria? Meshed in mold?

the second generation ( plates I transferred from the healthy looking myc on those old plates before the mold grew out ) had some clean myc but lots of mold still. I'm concerned as I only have 2 final plates and I don't trust either.
I think the underlying problem is literally underlying mold beneath the mycelium. I'm gonna probably just have to give it another go I think but I transfered 2 days ago so we'll see. I have some strains I really want to grow out but I dont want to waste spores or swabs..
I have a few MS syringes of strains I'm not super interested compared to varieties of PE and AA+ but I don't want to fuck up either.

Does the mold sporulate after a while on the plate or just a couple days after you transferred? Does it grow in little colonies near the edges of the plate? If the mold starts to show and sporulates many days after you transferred, then maybe the filter or lid might be failling. If it's mold from bad technique it usually shows after 2 or 3 days. If it's really meshed-in mold, that shit won't sporulate, it is usually some sort of pin mold. I don't think you can get meshed-in trich for instance, that shit will sporulate no matter what, but maybe I'm wrong and you can get meshed-in trich, would like to hear some opinions on this.

I think you can get meshed in Trich...I've seen some very agressive late blooming molds on plates that throw a delta when the plate is half way colonized....
I've also seen "clean" plates go into the fridge and come out with a delta....Makes me think that there are meshed in molds that will grow in low temps...Or I missed something...But it has happened quite a few times...

There's snow on the ground now and I can find white molds actively growing on old hay and firewood...

Thanks Crispy, good to know. Yeah those fucking deltas, though. Have some PE cultures from swabs that have been through hell with bacteria (easy to deal with) and meshed-in mold (not so easy).

Oooh look. A place to post my nightmares. Can you count how many contams are in these 4 jars. I've been a very dirty girl.

This jar is oyster versus yeast from a few days ago. Oyster is still kicking ass.

Someone claimed they couldn't see any yeast in this jar. When you enlarge the pic it's quite obvious.

Are you gonna pc those jars this time? Or gonna add to the ongoing nightmare?

you shouldn't ever let them get that bad and definitely pc them if there is any more than a small speck of green or any of those other colors you've got there.
your still going to be tracking that back in your house after dumping outside no matter how far you go to dump it.
it's so easy to pc something to control such a disaster.

I'm tracking shit back home all the time between the abandoned buildings and mushroom hunting. Spores are everywhere. My basement on the other side is full of them. Since I switched up my technique I'm getting better results. I try to be much more still and use the soapy water with a few drops of bleac. Also did a good cleaning.
And yes I know my jars should never get that bad. But I have EDS and I don't get to pick and choose when I have flares unfortunately or when I have energy. I was actually told by someone to make a bleach solution and open the jar under the bleach water and let some bleach water get into the jars so it wets down the grain so spores don't go flying around and also kills the shit real good if I leave it there for a bit till I dump it. It seems legit. I'd still do this outside though.
And the yeast in the oyster came with the culture. Go figure. The person more than made up for the mistake and well oysters love yeast. It's a great nitrogen source.

Still easier and less messy to pc the jars, even if the bleach thing was 100% effective which I doubt. As soon as you bring the pressure up to 15 psi you can turn off the gas knowing that shit is dead. Now you can open those jars safely. I really, really don't get why you don't pc those jars. Tom told you the other day apparently and you still do the same. If you still don't want to, there's only one thing left to say.

I always dump any contaminated jars in a compost pile out in the yard, hasn't bit me yet...
If I was to start PCing them though, you only have to wait till the pressure comes up and no longer?
