The jars colonized in two weeks I think, and I noticed it looked weird one week after that.

Honestly I thought the same thing. Looks like some form of mushroom fruity body, and not cubensis to my eye, more like when I got Tirkey Tail go nuts invitro inside a bag, though MadSeason said stroma which I have never encountered before so

Stroma is mushrooms, just a thick mass of mycelium, often pigmented like a mushroom but with the inability to sporulate or reproduce, unlike blobs/mutants which can have spores and thus the ability to reproduce.

Interesting. It's crazy how much I have researched but here in the last few days have learned so much.
I'm glad my eye wasn't totally off on that though, as it definitely looked like part of the mushroom and not a contam to me. I thought stroma (now that I know the term) was just primordia that didn't have the conditions to fruit, as I have had several oyster bags that did that and just thought I left them unfruited for too long (vacations screw up cultivations ;facepalm;). had no idea it had its own term and everything though thinking back now I may remember mention of it in Mycelium Running, perhaps?
Is this the result of genetics unable to breed as described in several texts? I knew that sometimes spores that germinate nearby each other were unable to reproduce, but I thought that they just wouldn't produce fruity bodies at all.
Intriguing stuff thanks for helping proliferate your knowledge.

Was going to tiger-drop a pasty plate in that jar and when I popped the lid off the puck did a somersault through the air and landed on my tyvek sleeve but I used that plate anyway, fuggit.
Shook the jar after inoc and marked it with an X as in fucked. Sure enough I got my very first mean green in a jar.
Super excited

Why did you cool your loop so many times in that plate?

Ah I just noticed that! Thanks for pointing that out it was probably open for like 10 seconds or so,with me leaning in close on it while stabing at it like a maniac!
I remember I did have trouble getting a little bit of agar outta my loop in one dish, which led to me desperately trying to get it out, Stabbing it back in the dish several times.. Guess I just didn't want it to smear or drop off onto my precious print, where it doesn't belong.

I wouldn't even try to save the glass jars.
