oh damn, totally missed this one. ill throw in some oldies.

and i think this one is my 2nd favorite. the casing was salted in the one spot. flush finished.

contamination sux, but its good to document success and failure. we can't move forward without a few steps back.
1st favorite. had a small spot of trich and the trich was eliminated. the tub flushed 4 times after that with dunks between each flush. contam never returned.
this ape tub below had surgery prior to first flush, was dunked and made it to 4 flushes before it was tossed. the sub was cut out down to the bottom of the tub and removed. this is a touchy subject but if you use surgical precision you have a chance to completely isolate and remove the contam to salvage the substrate. you may also spread the contam and fail. its a 50/50 bet. but the way i look at it is im probably tossing this tub anyways so why not. you have to pay close attention and monitor the area the next few days after surgery. if the green comes back you may want to toss it. you may also end up doing a surgery again. it can be an uphill battle.
middle right you can see the cake size piece cut out. 2nd flush after a dunk.

here you can even see new fruits next to the area where the contam was cut out. bottom right.

same spot different angle

3rd flush and you can see the same missing piece. each flush had a 4-8 hour dunk.

4th flush same sub

in this last image you can see new pins growing on the contam areas that were removed. 3 flushes later new pins formed after a dunk.

wow. I've had that shit in the first couple of pics before.. Wtf is that?
Also what did you cover it with? Just a wet paper towel? Cause when I had that it was suuuuch a bitch. Spread slowly and ate all the fruits in its path.
I've never had successful surgery. I might have to try cutting a piece the size of a cake next time I spot the aerial myc of trich...

Just be sure to remove the whole thickness of the substrate in the affected area

no salted. the paper towel is left to soak up the water that pools. once the water is soaked up. paper towel is replaced with a dry paper towel. all it does is keep the contam at bay until the flush finishes. then you can toss it out. some tubs are too far gone to salvage. but some if you catch them at the right time, you can salvage the remainder of a flush.
although you always want to take these contaminated tubs far away from your grow room.
the key in surgery is not to spread the contam. azur uses gallon ziplocks for this reason. i use bleach water soaked paper towels or alc soaked paper towels. its more to cover and contain the contam before you do the surgery. you cut out area, put bag over it(or bleach soaked paper towels), remove from tub. i even go the route of taking the entire liner and bulk sub out. and moving the salvaged sub to a fresh clean liner. ill even wash the tub with soap and water as well sometimes.
there is a fine line though. there gets to a point where you can't salvage a sub. but if you do have an issue, small contamination in a substrate can be easily isolated and you can have multiple flushes without further seeing the contamination. we are talking one tub here. not a full grow room. if your running automated with a big grow. get that shit out of there.
most amateurs will tell you not to try this. it takes a very steady hand to do this correctly. which comes with practice and years of experience. ive had my fair share of green covered tubs in the past. the mindset is this, your going to toss it anyway. why would it hurt if your chunking it in the garbage can if there is a 50% chance that you may be able to pull 3 more flushes off your substrate?

Yeah.. I'm definitely down to try that shit again. Properly. Also that's what my basement/shed is for. My grow room is upstairs at the end of the house.

I thought trich was almost impossible to remove since the spores are so small and light. I gotta say thats impressive. Love those gray headed shrooms. Some type of penis envy?

Question is are you doing more harm than good by trying to remove the mold? You're making an assumption that it's going to get worse if you simply salt it instead of removing it. Trichoderma spores do not disperse through the air as easily as many people think. Actions like cutting or misting are required for a large number of spores to be dispersed.

The experience gap between the old hands and the fresh blood is amazing, you guys should make a thread where all of you guys just BS about shit you do when shit goes down.

Typical contamination after a 2nd or 3rd flush on a pp5 muda bottle. It doesn't really bother me since the first 2 flushes are where it's at anyhow.
