Not sure with this millet melarkay...

Bacteria left jar
Hey guys, I'm not saying it's not bacterial, but I just shook that jar, it broke up pretty easy and smelt good through the filter.
Not gonna give up on it now, I'll just see how it recolonisises and see how it looks then and post my results.
Loads of times bacteria won't smell at all.
I hear ya pasty, it was my first time doing an LI and maybe I put too much innoculent in there, which makes me think quick colonisation, it also makes me think possible bacteria.
Now that I shook it do you think that if when it recolonisises and looks like healthy myc I'm good? I'll get it posted on here anyway, and if it's for the bin the oh well I've learned something

I put this in the contam forum but won't hurt here either.
Not sure what's up with these babies, but blue is bruising.
Any ideas?

Looks like a lot of them are aborting. Could be a contam issue, moisture issue, environmental, etc.

It is, or was at least. My room is getting shitty circulation and it's hot and dry where I am. Can't get the room below 82 ish Tried the no holes tek for that tub (done it before in a different location) and no matter what I did the surface kept drying out. Last night I put the holes in the tub to retain humidity and they look a lot better.
Wish I had your skills bod cause you seem to pull the no holes off pretty well.

how are you preparing your coir? Damion5050's tek is on the dry side, and is best after dunking grains. How are you putting things together, kenetic?

That particular tub is as follows:
30 quart tub damions bucket tek with 1 brick coir, 2 quarts verm and 4.5 quarts water 5 quarts spawn that I didn't dunk and probably should have
Once I mixed up the sub I covered in about 1/4 inch of the sub and let it colonize.
It got a ton of hyphal knots but the top kept drying out. No holes, lid barely cracked. I've done no holes before and it was good but I don't think it's gonna work for me where I live now. Obviously bod and many others I've seen can pull it off but I apparently can't get it right.
Room is just hot and dry and it hasnt rained here in forever
Other tub is fine, same prep as above but I did Inoc's oven coir tek to try it out.
Edit: Forgot to mention I was thinking the tub might have some bacteria that was messing with it, but if was just drying out I'll take that too

So here's that jar from the left again 3 days later after shake

So it looks healthy to me, smelt fine after the shake, or do you still think it's likely to be contaminated? First time on straight millet so any input welcome.

As someone who grows on straight millet a lot, I would say that jar is bacterial, but not horribly so. I would not g2g that jar, but you might be able to get away with spawning it.

That looks like it came from that wild, dirty, no good cyan print i gave you. Took me several transfers to get a somewhat clean culture. I kinda like starting off that way tho

It sure did
Rest assured I did get clean growth on other plates. It only took 3 transfers.
I've already got it on grain.

This shit was completely green a couple weeks ago. The jar colonized 30% when i shook it and then it went green. Forgot all about it till today and I'm shocked the myc colonized over the green (probably aspergillis) and fruited on straight oats.
Good thing it's slanted cause it looks like an aggressive fruiter! Haven't had a chance to fruit it yet and that was the master.

This jar is scary. There is a faint purple hue to some of the jar which makes me think that a lot of what is in there is neurospora.
Some of those are pretty toxic right?
The culture on agar has a faint rim of myc around the outer edge of the rhizo growth. Has anyone ever seen that before? I'm wondering if it is related to meshed in mold or just how the culture grows.
