I still have 3 pint jars of contaminated grain that must be at least 6 months old. As more time passes, I get less motivated to clean them up

I'm still learning here, what about those jars look contammed? I see excess moisture. They look very similar to my own jars, not very rhyzomorphic, and I've been told it's contam or maybe lack of FAE so either way I'll open em outside. But I wanna know how to tell cottony myc from contam.

grains that look like titties on the glass are always bacterial. It's just the best way I've found to describe that pressed up against the jar look.
The growth looks thick and white. Much thicker than clean growth does. It's also very uneven--when you zoom in you'll see white specks that are more things up to no good. Basically, you want the myc to look lighter, more even and uniform. The thick white with the greyish looking growth looks all sketchy to me. I'd love some expert to come in with the correct terminology. But that's pretty f'ed. I'd bet after a shake, the grain recovery would be weak.

Bacterial. Probably from improper moisture content of grain. Probably fine to spawn. Not fine to g2g. With bacterial spawn, myc is weakened and is more prone to other contams.

Okay, thanks guys. I will spawn it. I will try to redress the problem by letting my grains dry more next time. I use Fooman's WBS tek. If there's enough moisture in the jar that millet is sticking to the sides of the jar, then does that mean there's too much moisture?

I only have one cake that I grow as an experiment.
It smells nicely, like fresh shrooms, grows fast BUT the main mushroom has some weird stuff going on at its base. What is it?

My guess would be aspergillus sp. Not a pro tbough!
I know aspergillus can have many colors from blue to green to grey so that's my guess

The leading edge is white and aspergillus doesn't have white myc.

There are lots of species. A. Flavus, for example, totally has a white leading edge. Some aspergillus is matt grey or black, like A. Niger, but i have seen a fair share with white myc
A quick google search will corroborate

Not super familiar with a flavus, but I do know it sporulates a yellow color. It also has a scale texture.
