Story on this: I spawned a few jars that probably had bacteria, poor recovery and poor fruiting. I didn't want to deal with the rest of the unspawned jars so I tucked them into a shelf and forgot about them for about 6 months.
Those larvae were all alive and undulating through the jar when I took the picture, it was hideous.
There were probably 100 fruit flies buzzing around on the top of the grains too.
Must have been a filter fail but it looked a like perfect lid.
I may have a mild case of PTSD,

Any ideas what this orange stuff could be? This was a third flush in a mini mono. At first i thought contaminate, for sure. I misted with water and it was damn near gone the next day.

metabolites maybe? i mean.. it looks like there are tons of yellow/almost orange all over that tub.. which could be metabolites from the tub being bacterial.

Here is the tub the next day.. This was a 3rd flush so i harvested and tossed. Even though im leaning towards metabolites fighting off possible bacterial infection from weaknd myc...

You see that big uncolonized looking spot? It's colonized with bacteria.
The orange/yellow is a sign of a stressed out sub. Could be a few different causes, that would be one of them.

I dont believe so... i cased to early with c/v/g and it was consumed while fruiting the first flush. This spot was much bigger. When first fruiting. Along with other uncolinized casing.. That was finally consumed.

slow to colonize, yet fruiting... metabolites present... looking at your pictures...
thats bacterial bro

It colonized super fast. I used 2 qts of oats to 2 quarts cvg. It was all white the second day. I cased on the 4th day with a quart of cvg.
It started consuming it by day 7 or 8. It was m.s it yielded a little over 2 oz dry..

Edit: not saying its definitely not bacterial. I think i really fucked up by casing too early.

it probably wouldve been bacterial from the spawn, not from an earlier casing. or maybe not prepping your sub properly. but i dont think i have ever heard of a tub getting bacterial from casing early.

Shit.. Idk.. I unfortunately didnt rake pics of the spawn jars. But it colonized this 29 qt tub in like 2 days maybe a tad longer.. The spawn looked and smelled clean.
It also yielded decent.. I just don't know??

its fruiting and there is a giant uncolonized patch that doesn't match the rest of the tub. thats not super fast. that big spot is behind on colonization because of contamination.

No such thing as casing to early... Casing right when you spawn your tub is a common practice.... The coloration is metabolites being produced in response to a bacterial infection... This isn't a debate type of thing... That's just what it is man... Good Job on your tub though...

Ok but it was fruiting while still partially in the vegetative state. There were like 3 uncolinized patches, when first notice of pins.

It just seems odd it yielded healthy looking shrooms with a decent yield. If it was bacterial from the getgo...
Oh and thanks for all you're contributions to this site. Ive learned alot from your posts and videos..
Edit: Im not doubting your thoughts on it being bacteria, but i try hard with sterile procedure and all.. Also i w ouldn't think it would yield as decent as it did being bacterial. But im definitely still learning..
I just hope future grows wont be effected. That would be my main concern.

you can still get fruits with a bacteria tub.. it happens all the time.
what do you define as a "decent yield"? thats what it is gonna come down to, in this case. you can still get fruits with bacterial spawn, but you wont get as many as you would have with healthy spawn.

just look around some. Search "bacterial substrates can have fruits" and read some threads. Literally in the last month I've probably repeated those words at least 100 times.
