That would be cool munch, thank you. Resurrect the tampfest thread with the pics because I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who was confused by the look of the mycelium.

I threw out countless pan cyan germination plates because I had never seen the myc before... Come to find out that it also doesn't really look like cube myc...

Not really that I'm aware of... Its usually "meshed" in bacteria that I have to deal with... The molds I get are usually just like that picture because I get sloppy as Fuck in the SAB... If I'm doing more than like 30 transfers I need a fucking cigarette so bad by the time I'm nearing the end that I just Fuck it all up...

That happens to me as well only I try my best not to fuck up. God knows I get plenty of those.

Okay, no worries. If anyone does know a bit about them, any and all help on this thread is much appreciated.

I was also curious if a meshed in mold ever sectors away from your shroom mycelium or if they are as good as trash. I just threw a shitload of cultures that I suspected of having meshed mold this morning.

Meshed in molds are best handled with a hot pour IMO. I heard of people using antibiotics or pH buffering but I never tried them myself.

They die with a hot pour? Didn't know that.

Can you take a look at that thread I linked to see if you think I have any?

I ain't exactly sure bout it but sometimes it seems like the cultures are having a hard time staying above the surface of the agar only the media is nice and hard. Others start to develop a bit of rhizo growth only to turn cottony all of a sudden or they get these wierd sectors where the mycelium seems a lot thinner.

So why not take a break half way through and smoke a cigarette?
Let the air settle so any mistakes made before would have a smaller chance at affecting the second half of work.

I don't smoke, but if I notice that I am making too many large movements and fucking things up, I close up the box and wait 20 minutes.
Plus it's just nice to have a break when you are working in a SAB for close to or over an hour.

Meh, I would want to get it over with. It's not uncommon for me to have a 2hr session and if I wanted to stop to smoke whenever I felt I needed one, I would turn that into a 3hr session. I use a hood so I wouldn't benefit from stopping. Tyvek sleeves are also a bitch to tuck under the gloves sometimes so the less time I spend fiddling, the better.

Sounds like you need to tighten up your movements. I don't even use tyvek, bare arms and gloves for me. I rarely see contamination due to inoculate. A spot on a plate outta 80-100 or so. My biggest issue to date was grain with high CFU populations. This is done in a SAB in a moldy basement.

I don't see much contamination on plates either nowadays. This week I've been panicking about possible meshed molds but when it comes to contam spots on plates, I'm comfortable with the number I get.

Now I'm not sure about this but I get the idea that when you have a meshed in mold, it is usually because you kept transferring it from a spore inoculated plate, right? And that for them to grow together they need to germinate around the same time and around the same spot.

This oyster jar is not nearly as disgusting as most of the stuff here but I'm still kind of put off from cleaning it out.

What do you guys think? Are those lone hypae from hidden molds? These are 2 day old transfers from suspect plates. If this is so this might turn out to be a reliable way to spot meshed molds. Might also be a good addition to the hidden contams thread.
