I got lazy and left this tub going after the second flush was harvested. It got a bit moldy.
After harvesting those fruits I got really lazy.
Here it is a week later. moldy as fuck.

The pic with the condensation? What don't you like about it?
We are going to find out because I just used it to make a master

The culture is disorganised. Looks weak. There is a difference between strong yet organized tomentose growth and weak disorganised tomentose growth.

This is disorganized? Mycelium looks less dense on agar thats on the dryer side. On the wetter side it gets thicker. At least that's what I always thought.
I say there are other variables that could be involved so just that picture wouldn't be enough to say, thats a weak culture, I don't think it looks disorganized either. Teach us oh wise one.

Hey I said it was suspect not totally contamed to hell. We will see. Frank had a pile of cultures that looked like that and they turned out bad with a nearly impossible to see mold meshed in and riding along. Even if it is clean, I want it to be more aggressive than that when I put it to grain. Let's say that it's not so much that the culture is weak as it's in a weak state.
Also it is a bit disorganised, certainly not strong directional growth.

Mycelium won't grow on dry agar. You are referring to stiff or soft agar gel strength.

I see what you are saying Pasty. Keep in mind it's a sclerotia producer, so it's not cube mycelium (just making sure you caught that) I honestly didn't like how it grew/looked the entire time I've been doing it. I just thought this is what ATL7 looked like on agar. But you are right, something is suspect. If this Master contams, we know the issue is in my cultures.

You know what, I totally missed that it wasn't a cube. That actually looks more normal then. My bad.

Ahhh this makes me feel better about the master I just made then.
I still think you are right about the first culture being contaminated. Just by looking at my other first transfers I'm pretty sure I can deduce that's the issue. Hopefully I transferred away from that problem with this plate i just used.

you growth looks similar to my plates. the tamp is def whispier lookin than cubes, and won't be as thick and full when it hits 100%. I've got one jar of tamps goin with stones which I can take a picture of later so you can see how it looks at 100%. and for plates, I have a few I could sacrifice for a nice picture as well...

That would be cool munch, thank you. Resurrect the tampfest thread with the pics because I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who was confused by the look of the mycelium.

Penicillium is everywhere. And tiny. Usually for home cultivators, it originates from a food source.
