I'll add some new pics soon.
For now, here's some old ones of what happens to a PF jar if not sterilized (not inoculated either). I can see at least 5 different contaminants.

That's just gnarly.

TBH grain water agar should also get longer than MEA as potentially high endospore counts can be an issue on occasion. Of course grains like brown rice will be more forgiving but with most you are playing with fire by shorting the run.
I use MEA, GW, potato, dog food, cornstarch, brown rice, honey, SITR, karo, and occasionally carrot as my typical ingredients. I mix and match most with the exception of malt and grain water. Be sure to pair starches and sugars, you never want a sugar heavy recipe.
Changing media regularly keeps vigor high and some also simply do better on some over others. You won't know this unless you try. Dog food sounds weird but is one of the best.

Whoa, that's a lot of recipes! Guess I have a bit of mixing to do.
Edit:
Does using something like dogfood screw up visibility in the agar? I'm guessing it doesn't fully dissolve, right?

Ya need to filter it. I crush it, then boil, then filter, then add the broth to the agar and usually a simple sugar. Tho I think Muda doesn't filter his and he swears by it for getting invitro pins. So maybe I might try that myself. Certainly if you are leaving the solids use a longer cycle.

I see. I used to love my premade sabouraud agar, crystal clear when you look through it with a light but once I compared it with MEA I noticed how slow it was for the mycelium to colonise it.
With sabouraud agar the mycelium colonises the whole thing as it goes rather than colonise on top.
Tried to get some agar additives today at the health shop but only found dextrose so far.

That's horrible. Rodents just love to tunnel through shit, never had problems with them at home but my dads old company was just teeming with the fuckers. They got inside these enclosed shelves where he stored seed pouches and they all had this hole in the middle, just tunnelling through like no one's business.
Fucker in the last pic got what was coming to him, perfectly split his skull in two what are the chances.

When I was young we used traps to catch them, throw them in the loo and pour boiling water on them. The screaming used to make me feel bad afterward.

I think he flicked the mold fruiting body with a knife and made it disperse a shit load of spores into the air.

Except mold doesn't produce fruit bodies. Pretty sure that was a higher fungus however I can't really make out many features.

Cobweb disease. I've been seeing a lot of it lately. Fortunately it's mainly in the later flushes when the substrate is pretty much spent anyway.

Never had a mold that attacks the fruits so far.
Anyone know if this looks like yeast/bacterial contam? Dunno if you'll be able to see it in pic but it looks like very small white dots.

Doesn't look like any bacteria I've seen before since the spots seem dry. The mycelium is regular oyster mycelium. This is my first time growing these but I noticed none of tje other jars have these white spots so far. Probably won't use it in any case since I need the best looking jars to do g2g. I am just curious if it is a contam since it is pretty hard to spot in a jar filled with mycelium.
