Very cool looking
    #22222667 - 09/11/15 03:45 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat:
In the forest near stumps and old trees.

Gills:
Lither purple when young (as in photo) and then dark colored when older.

Stem:
Stem seems very proportional for this gorgeous species; about 3 or 4 inches. It has a very pronounced ring always about midway up. Below the ring the stem is purple and darker colored.

Cap:
The cap on the younger ones has a good amount of off white to it as seen in the photos. When it gets older, the cap turns darker and bruises immediately a curious color.

Spore print color:
Spore print is brown.

Bruising:
It bruises fast and deep purple.

Other information:
I like this one and have been trying to identify, but believe I am bias towards it being a lactarius but I don't know.

Very interested to see what you guys think!

Looks like an Agaricus species.

Not to me. With an Agaricus species smell is important -- a smell somewhat like ink indicates it can make you sick, but a pleasant smell suggests edibility. One of the more prominent toxic Agaricuses is A. xanthodermus, which will stain yellow, but there is also Agaricus arvensis that stains yellow and is a choice edible. I've read that it's possible to tell the difference between the two yellowings but I'm not sure on the specifics of this.

Very interesting, it smells tasty, actually. The stem too closely resembles an autumn skull cap to me. But the cap and gills don't look very dangerous. It stains brown. Interesting it has that little brown nipple on the top of it when its little. This feature disappears when its older.

It looks very cool in the wild though. Still, my first impressions was that this has to be something kind of exotic. These photos don't really do it justice I guess.

It's definitely not a Galerina. I'm pretty sure it's an Agaricus.

Oh for sure not a Galerina lol yeah not even close. I'm not used to finding specimens with both vivid colors and such a pronounced ring, that is why I'm so curious about it I think.

Interesting that a yellow indicates danger though, I learned that as far as the spore print, white or yellow is generally bad.

My first guess was Lactarius sp. as there are many different types in the area easy to id.
