Do you know there was a time in the US when retail jobs actually paid a livable wage? True story, it happens in a tight labor market.
You have no understanding of how monopolies work. It's not just price fixing its wage fixing too. When Wal-Mart opens up and shuts down all the competition retail workers have very little choice when it comes to who they work for. If it was ten workers or a million the story is the same. You can work at Wal-Mart for $9 an hour or not work.
As I've recently mentioned we're seeing collusion in the tech industry to fix wages even in fields that are in high demand. This is illegal but as the cost of paying the fine is less than the profit they receive they do it anyway.
This magical free market shit you guys believe in is nothing but a faery tale. Business shows more solidarity than our working class and that's fucking sad.
"You can work at Wal-Mart for $9 per hour or not work"
You still don't get it, when there's 5 different manufacturing plants in a area that all need workers and pay $25 per hour, that creates a shortage of available workers for Wal-Mart, that forces Wal-Mart to pay higher wages because of the market forces of supply and demand, Wal-Mart can NOT fix wages.
Do you have any understanding how the US economy functioned in the 1940's-80's? Have you ever talked to family members who lived in that era? You seem to be oblivious to anything that didn't occur in the past 10 years.

Cost of living is tied to standard of living, however. America's standard of living is far too high and is unsustainable. An adjustment is going to occur sooner or later. Any discussion about trying to reduce the income gap or unemployment is just arranging deck chairs on the titanic.

1940s-80s? You mean before Reaganomics?
Yes, I'm quite familiar with the higher tax rates and the labor movement of the Great Depression.
What else happened after the 80s? Oh right, industrial jobs began to move overseas as the cost of transportation went done. Retail jobs began to dry up as Walmart began to compete with local retailers.
And I just checked my local craigslist. Three manufacturing jobs listed. Of the two entry level positions one doesn't list the salary, the other starts at about what Walmart does.
I live in a far north state. Competing with illegal immigrants for work isn't a big problem here... unless they're sneaking in from Canada.

Well that I can agree with. I still think it's tied into capitalism. It's that grow or die mantra that feeds consumer culture.

"Competing with illegal immigrants for work isn't a big problem here"
That doesn't change the fact that illegals still hurt tens of millions of US citizens in other parts of the country, or maybe you don't give a shit since it doesn't impact you at all.

You're strawmanning.
The point I was making is that it's not illegals taking all the factory jobs around here. There just aren't many.

The situation in Europe gets more dire every day. Idiot wants the same thing for us as do the completely insane 'progressives'

BRUSSELS – Many Europeans feel like their countries are under assault, as huge numbers of migrants flow across their borders. Whether they are being exposed to refugees firsthand, or just seeing images of them splashed across newspaper pages, Europeans are well aware of the vast numbers of desperate people trying to enter European Union territory by any means possible. But this awareness has yet to translate into a unified response. Read more at https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/european-asylum-burden-sharing-by-daniel-gros-2015-09#0RMTf5fjH43YEUQk.99

So neither of you saw where I specified income tax rates? Or saw that the composites in the Wikipedia link are just that: composites. Of which income tax only makes up 1/4...

Unfortunately, I believe you are right about the 'rearranging deck chairs'. No economy has ever recovered from Quantitative Easing (that I am aware of). This impending collapse is preventing many people from even wanting to participate in this facade any longer. Whatever you work for will be taken away eventually, one way or another.
Capitalism is imploding.
I often wonder if the collapse that is coming is the reason for all of our military expenditure. So that when we no longer have the legal means, and the world is in dissarray, America can bully the world and steal their shit in a more brazen fashion.

Wow, this is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen posted on this site. Every day, people have things taken away from them by other citizens not representing or affiliated with the government.
You are truly beyond ignorant.
