Help! Mushrooms before full colonization!

I am doing backflips with excitement, as this is my very first attempt at growing mushrooms! I have been patiently waiting for my jars to colonize and noticed this morning that one has actually begun to grow a mushroom before 100% colonization! What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Birth it. Wipe off all the uncolonized parts.
Dunk it for 24 hours.
Roll it in dry verm when you get out.

I would go ahead and birth before it gets too big(once it gets too big you won't be able to get the cake out) and cut off the uncolonized part before you dunk and roll. Welcome to shroomery by the way

Isn't early pinning a sign of contamination?

In tall 1/2 pints it can be a few things.

My jars have been colonizing for almost 8 weeks now. And the part the looked uncolonised actually had a very light film of mycelium and it actually held together when I popped it out.

8 weeks seems suspiciously slow. What temps are they colonizing at?

I had a similar issue with my tall half pints, every single one of them started pinning before the week-long consolidation you're supposed to give, and two of them pinned before full colonization. I birthed each one when it started growing mushrooms, and cut out the uncolonized parts on those two.
Every cake has gone through two flushes, no contams yet, and the first two in vitro mushrooms ended up being the two biggest single mushrooms that have come out of my FC, at just over an ounce wet each.
I didn't roll because of the growths, but in hindsight wish I would have. Might roll after dunking for third flush

Oh yeah, and also, going to switch to short wide mouth half pints next time around. I've read the tall ones are prone to stalling out as well as invitro pinning before full colonization. Based on the way the jars colonized it's very easy to believe the short ones would colonize faster

It took so long because I used a dry layer of verm and mirco pore tape. I am pretty sure the micro pore tape was the problem because I took it off a couple days ago and it seemed to speed up the growth a lot. They are at approx 68 - 72 degrees F.

Yeah, no need for tape on the holes with the verm layer. It's there to keep contaminants away. Temp is a little low too based on what I've read, lower temps seem to equate to slower growth, but obviously it's fine. My tall half pints colonized in about 4 weeks at temps between 75 and 80

Yeah, I guess I was extra cautious because it was my first time! I will be sure to leave out the tape next time. I will also try the shorter wide mouth 1/2 pint jars and see if it speeds things up more.
My jars are located in my laundry room, so it's essentially the warmest room in the house. Would you recommend a space heater or any other method to keep them warmer?

it's not the tape really, i mean it doesnt' help but the main issue is jar shape, gravity draws moisture to the bottom and compacts the substrate down there making the myc work that much harder

Mine took about 4 weeks to colonize, his took 8, the main differences are tape and temp. It would make sense to me that obstructing GE even more could slow down colonization too, so just pointing out that it's not necessary.

has nothign to do with that, pf jars are the only things with holes exposed yet my grain jars colonize just as fast, dont'compare your ms jars to his that's just silly
