In-Vitro Pins from Leftover Rye Spawn
    #22221200 - 09/11/15 10:20 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hi everyone!

I had a about a cup of leftover P. cubensis rye spawn in a quart jar which I just put a lid over and left alone in a box (I'm a relatively new grower, so I just wanted to see what would happen).

About a month later (a couple of days ago), I noticed that a few tiny pins were forming at the edges of the jar. Not wanting to waste the spawn, I put it in my sgfc and now I have some pretty radical growth in it.

Now I've done a search on the forums, and it seems like harvesting these would be a fairly straightforward affair if the jars didn't have a tapered lid. However, it looks like the only way to get the fruits out in this case would be to break the substrate up and pick the chunks out. This would, of course, mean that the grow would be a one-flush affair.

Does anyone have ideas on how I could get more mileage out of the spawn?

Thanks in advance!

ed. On reflection, I could also take a hammer to the jar and treat it as a cake (would I need to case it?) If you think that would be a good idea, feel free to weigh in

flush with broken spawn maybe? Idk, looks dope tho!

I'd personally just toss it after.
