haha sorry, felt like i needed to post this.
If you arent aware of the Mouse Hot plate test. They test analgesia effects on mice by placing them on hot plates and recording their reactions...
Mouse injected with compound. Mouse Placed on Hot Plate. Biologist turns heat up. Mouse catches fire. Scientist records "effects of said compound produce significant analgesia".

eh, its way less dramatic then you describe.
It looks something like this:
-------------------- ...the whole experience is (and is as) a profound piece of knowledge. It is an indellible experience; it is forever known. I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did. Smith, P. Bull. Menninger Clinic (1959) 23:20-27; p. 27. ...most subjects find the experience valuable, some find it frightening, and many say that is it uniquely lovely. Osmond, H. Annals, NY Acad Science (1957) 66:418-434; p.436

More or less mean than testing unknown drugs on vulnerable humans?

I will catch hell for saying what I am about to say I know, but here it goes.
I am a hunter, and this does not mean I hate animals, I thank nature for every harvest I take and do not waste anything. Often I donate my kills to "Hunters for the Hungry" Organization for feeding the less fortunate.
However I am also a trained Combat Medic (former), and there is just something about the Trauma that catches my eye, and fascinates me. I swear im not a sadist.
So i was hunting and I had a clean shot on this Deer. I didnt want to kill it "That Easy" so i decided to stalk it, Now when I go hunting I carry my medical gear with me, its just the old Army Medic coming out in me, incase of an accident.
So I shot this deer, and it was wounded and bleeding pretty bad, I knew it was going to die, but I attempted to "Save" it after shooting it. (Almost like a Live Tissue Lab) I placed a Tourniqet above the G.S.W. stopped the bleeding, also I started and secured an airway, and eventually stabilized the animal.
Long story short, I ended its pain and ate it...But Animal cruelty is wrong, but theres no difference in Human cruelty either. That is if you consider Humans to be animals as well. (Which I do)

Obviously, and I don't think any of the claims about your good deeds are going to make much of a difference. But we all mistakes and I just hope that next time you'll go for the clean kill if you have the chance.
