Pretty much, OP, we're saying this.. No story ends better having told your friends you're growing.. But there's literally thousands of stories with awful endings by doing so.
Next time, wait til they're grown and your setup is disassembled before giving em out or selling or whatever.

But you gotta realize, nearly every single person on these boards has told someone, or has someone who knows they grow. I have my SO, and a couple of very trustworthy friends. I make sure they don't tell people, and they haven't. For like 2 years.
But you just gotta be cautious. It could honestly mean some serious jail time.

Just say you saw a video on YouTube where some guy bought a store-bought mushroom growing kit on clearance and improved it for $6 more to grow twice as mush beech mushrooms as the kit would. Then say that you're not really confident it's not poisonous mushrooms because of how they were talking about contamination from outside spores in the directions. If they press you just pretend everything you know about Trich contaminations is poisonous mushroom spores instead for the sake of the convo and that's your excuse for not sharing or eating them. That it was a fun experiment for self-reliance in case of a zombie apocalypse, then say you'll probably just buy mushrooms at the store for all the trouble it was. Then don't be so careless with your planning next time so as to have mommy and daddy show up in the middle of your felonous beech mushroom grow in their house.

Shroomslip said: They drop information without thinking about it brag to their friends "my buddy is growing shrooms" or any number of scenarios.
I learned this the hard way. Showed two friends in high school, swore them to secrecy, 2 days later I had people (plural) asking me for mushrooms

As a rule of thumb my view has been every person I "trust" with things is going to have 4 people they "trust" enough to let know I told them.
Hopefully OP is able to look at the advice given more clearly, rather than being another unfortunate soul who learns the hard way.
