The footage shows the effect the pill has had on 16-year-old Amy Thomson, who collapsed after taking MDMA in June
By Lucy Clarke-Billings, video source Facebook/Tricia Thomson 12:42PM BST 10 Sep 2015

A video of a teenage girl who was left in a coma after taking the ecstasy-like drug MDMA has been released by her family.
Amy Thomson’s life changed dramatically after she collapsed at a party in Glasgow in June and remained critically ill in hospital for a month.
Doctors were slowly able to stabilise the 16-year-old and in August she was transferred to a specialist rehabilitation unit for people with brain injuries.
The footage shows the effect the pill has had on Amy as she is sat in a garden in her wheelchair, saying: “Thank you, thank you everyone”.
The video was posted on the Facebook page Support for Amy, which has over 4,000 likes.
Some of Amy's friends, who had not seen her since she collapsed at the house party, welcomed the video but said it had upset them to see Amy in such a different way.
Responding to people's reactions to the video, a post on the page by her cousin Kayla said: "Some people may have cried, laughed or being shocked seeing the video.
"But this is what a tiny pill can do to you. Amy won't be like this for the rest of her life, she's getting the best care and support.
"If this isn't an eye opener for everyone who continues to take stuff, I dunno what is!"
Annie, Amy's auntie, wrote: "This video likely shocked some people, but it's not sad.
"Yes she's in a wheelchair at the moment and her speech is impaired but she will keep improving.
"I've no doubt that she'll lead a full and happy life."
The Mail Online reported that despite the drug seriously damaging the young girl's brain, Amy's family believe that, with the continued help of medics, she can continue to make progress.
A 33-year-old man and two women, aged 17 and 18, were arrested for alleged drug offences after Amy collapsed on June 10.
Police and doctors have repeatedly warned the public about the threat posed by MDMA.

That pic on the left doesn't look like a 16 y/o girl. My ability to gauge how old people are is terrible... Taking a terrible picture of someone isn't a fair assessment of their wellbeing.

I highly doubt it was MDMA that she took... and if it was, her condition was probably caused by dehydration

Exactly the question and the answer is most likely "no". They never talk of proper testing because they probably didn't. Second, why are millions not left wheelchair-stricken after a MDMA binge? Only her, so therefore drugs are bad and should be illegal! Not.
Fuck the mainstream news media.

Right? That's jail bait right there. If I met that girl at a bar and she told me she was 20...

With this sorta shit in the media, and I feel like knowledgeable community's pressing question of "you sure that was just... MDMA???" Where does MAPS (and other applicable research and activist type groups) come into this?
MAPS is conducting FDA approved trails, ahead of schedule for physician prescription to the public. When the hell do we throw down the line to the media to quit the bullshit slandering and inflated stories? At what point does the media start to educate instead of bullshit?? (looooooaded fucking question).
That end is near for this shit for christ sake it MUST be near.
Otherwise, what the hell do we do with these people who deny the incredible experience of life that is our wonderful entheogenic and hallucinogenic garden?

P.S. Those pics are the farthest apart of that girl. And exemplifies the sensationalism of the media. ARRGGGHHHHHH!

There is one thing the media cares about: ratings. How do they get ratings: entertainment. Facts that lead to a happy and full and filled life would make the dull drone of the "news"caster obsolete, as people would not need the lowest common denominator as a form of entertainment. All in all, don't expect the mainstream media to change until society no longer desires their drivel.

Trying to Google for more info I found this:
"The toxicology report detailing taken substances has not been released because of pending criminal cases, Police Scotland says."
Read more: http://metro.co.uk/2015/09/10/this-is-what-a-tiny-pill-can-do-teen-left-in-wheelchair-after-taking-mdma-5385232/#ixzz3lPCTwE8f
So they know what was in the capsule but won't say because they want to bust some dealers? They really don't care about us. Like at least say it was MDMA or mixed or totally fake. People could make more informed decisions if they had more facts. I can't believe they know what is in the pill but won't say.

Thanks for that. It also mentions:
Quote:
Amy Thomson, 16, only took one crystal capsule of MDMA (or what was sold as MDMA) at a house party in June [...] She and three other teenagers were taken to hospital, but Amy was critically ill and ended up in a coma for weeks.
So it sounds like it was a crystalline substance inside a clear cap. I wonder if it was a ridiculously high dose of MDMA or something completely different. The fact that it sent 4 people from the same small venue to hospital, suggests it wasn't an average pill.

Mid article:
Now, we aren’t saying that MDMA was the cause of her falling ill, but often it is mixed with unknown substances that could prove fatal.
Title of article:

You gotta remember the people writing these articles aren't drug nerds like us. They're journalists parroting back buzz words from what cops and other authority figures have said. It shouldn't surprise you when there is ignorance about the compounds, the street names for compounds and the pharmacology of said compounds. The truth is people only know what they learn in 9th grade health class and rumors about drugs I don't think it's a campaign of misinformation, I think people simply don't know. The cops don't know and the politicians don't know, they're just repeating what they heard in health class too. There is no authority on drug knowledge in the western world, it's completely okay to say drugs are bad and they do this and that with no evidence to back it up in popular culture.
