Outdoor Bed Questions

How deep is too deep?
How often should I add poo to the bed?
How often should I water the bed?
Is there a way to create even mycelium growth in an outdoor bed?

Next Set of Questions:
Would it be ok to bury a soak hose in the bottom of the bed for easy flooding?
If I build a patch now, will it repopulate in the spring? or will the winter cold kill the mycelium?
IF I cannot get horse or cow poo, what other option for substrate for dung eaters can I use?

Have you checked out Moe's Outdoor Tek? That should answer a lot of your questions.
I've used worm castings in an outdoor bed and you should be able to get a bag anywhere. Your local big box hardware store sells manure and it's only a few dollars for a big bag.

I have been reading the reworded Moes Tek by Stoned Myconaut.
So far, I have answered almost all of my own questions. There are a few that still need better answers.
How deep is too deep?
For watering, could I use a buried soak hose?
At what temperature does mycelium die? (I want to know if the winter will kill my patch)
And a new thought that popped up. I thought about the manure compost at the big box stores.
With that said, would I be able to use coconut coir as a replacement for straw?
My final mix idea is 2 bags composted manure, soaked coconut coir (approximately 1/2 of the manure, and a little vermiculite.
Does this sound alright?

you guys really are not big on helping newbs huh?
Over in the Ethnobotanical Garden, everyone is so helpful..here, I cant even get a response.
I have used the search function, and read dozens of old posts..but sometimes it helps to have current responses to read, and help work the kinks out with.

We're trying to help, but we need time to respond. I was at work for your first response and in bed for the second one.
I honestly don't know the answer to the rest of your questions. I live in an area where it doesn't get cold and it rains a lot this time of year.
I don't see why you can't use coir. I used coir outside.

Just got 120 pounds of composted manure for $5.37. I am in business.
So I am thinking of doing 3 separate patches in different parts of my backyard.
If I do 40 lbs of manure per patch, how much coir and vermiculite should I mix in? If anyone has a ratio or even a suggestion, please let me know.
Example: 2/1/1 or 3/1/1.
