I'm a complete amateur, so I expect some chuckling going on, feel free :-) A pothead trying his hand at mycology.
I used a basic 2-parts verm (I used much more vermiculite than was recommended in the recipe I was following), 1-part brown rice flour, water to be moist and no pooling water.
-- I boiled 4 1-pint jars. I know I was told 1-pint was too big for a beginner like me, but, the pandemic and stuff made finding ANY decent wide rimmed mason jars difficult.
Then I put my 4 jars in the pressure-cooker for one hour the morning after I had boiled them. I figured a double-sterilization couldn't hurt. So far it hasn't - all 4 jars are growing strong paneolus mycelium.
The attached photos are Day-25 since inoculation. Are any of them ready to be 'birthed and dunked' you think? I know a couple of them are seemingly under-colonized still. But their patches are really dense.
One jar has two little yellowish spots. I've never tried panies before... think infection in that one? Just anxious how close I am to birthing one o two of 'em.
Thanks peeps. Love shroomers and shroomin. Thx for yer patience!!! -Dae

Nec-d, wild pan cyan(Guadalajara it was found in a town called Zapodan so that is what I will be referring to it as from now on) from wild print and Ho Kipa (Hawaiian) I’m sure this has been done but some of the grain was amended with some horse manure pellets. It’s really just an experiment mainly based on the idea that the mycelium creates enzymes to digest that manure and if I’m giving it a head start what will happen if anything. May just be as simple as providing it better protection but I’ve had some jars stall out temporarily when spawned (maybe 2-4 days occasionally) and I’m wondering if this could be at play.

I'm having a helluva time trying to replicate a good millet prep. What do you do for your bare bones millet

It's not on grains dude, they're BRF cakes. As for the health of the myc, I'll let someone else field that...

If this winds up going south, then check out a variation on the pf tek more suited to pans, McMerdin's pan-cakes.

I'm always open to learning more!
Thanks for the advice - if you have the time, please feel free to PM me here with your suggestion for next-run. I'm not writing this batch off yet, though. One jar, in isolation, to see what happens. :-) I got the pans spores before reading about their penchant for dung, etc... so I just used the (really good!) brown rice flour. Made sure each jar was loosely packed, hoping for the myc to take over the jars as fast as possible. *fingers crossed*

well u should be tryin to grow psilocybe cubensis not pan cyans🤷🏼 i suggest reading thru the getting started section and doin a lot of research and dont attempt pans til u have some cube grows under ur belt. besides brf isnt no good for pans they thrive better on manure.

Thx muches! Appreciate the candid advice. About a decade ago I had a nice little B+ strain goin. Were awesome - I mean really awesome, but my yield was what you expect from a complete newbie ;-) Was only enough for two people.
If these somehow manage to fruit to any mentionable size/volume, or when I call it an experiment and try again with maybe another B+. They sure turned out nice. But I used jars half the size (was way easier to control with the smaller jars). So my jar size, plus experience with the pans does not bode well - but I refuse to give up yet :-)

Millets a little difficult at first especially proso millet because of that hard outer shell but it’s so cheap I just mix it with wheat berries pretty much like JOC does 75millet 25wheat. I mix it with some gypsum and soak it in 160f water from the tap for 24 hrs(if I can remember I’ll drain the water at about 12 hrs and put fresh hot water in there) then I wash it about 5 times with the hot water again and load it all up in jars. Pc and presto. Bon apetit’.
Psilo I use LC that’s why it’s so fast but really this Necd is just fast in general. Plus millet is generally faster with pans IME anyway. Also right now I’m doing everything in a closet in a garage and it’s far from sterile so LC is just the best option for me. Now that wild pan from zapodan I did use a wedge and it’s been super aggressive. I’m excited to see what it will do in fruiting.

daemus, If you get 100% colonization, do what jcm suggests and shred those cakes to a pasteurized manure/straw substrate in a shallow tray. I've done this many times with pans, with good results. Pan mycelium is slow to colonize BRF cakes, and you can't shake it like grain. But with patience you'll get a similar result in the end, IME.

man this nec d is fast as hell. i will be spawnin tom i cant wait.
third flush of jambos comin in on the first tray.
i prolly wont go for a 4th on this tray its gettin pretty sparse and small but so far i have pulled 71 dry off it. il go for a 4th tho to help make up a bit of what i lost from my fuck up if i have time b4 the nevs go in
then the second tray the one that i fried out the first flush on is starting the 2nd flush and its lookin to be a good one. il get pics up in the next cpl days as it fills in. its gnna be a solid canopy for sure. so im still on track to hit my goal of at least 150 dry when all is said n done.

Looking forward to seeing that canopy!
Here's my second flush. Didn't weigh it. I'm ditching these pots now to make space in my FC for the McMerdin's pan-cakes that are ready to case.
