Hey guys,
Great work, I've been having a lot of fun reading through this thread. I haven't done much agar work and I'm a little confused about pan myc being "fast and whispy"
I think these plates(T1, day 4) might be a little too tomentose. Hard to photograph, but they are puffed up from the media almost to the lid, 8-9mm. If I cut back on the nutes for my next tranfer can these be saved or should I start over from spore? Or are they ok the way they are.

no those look decent from what i can telll with the quality of the pics. but id stay away from that one area on the first pic at the colony at about the 2o clock position and on the say 10-11 o clock area on that colony that looks like bacteria to me. but other than that id take a few transfers from each one then take ur best and go to grain cuz those look pretty decent so far

Cool, thank you.
I think that's just a reflection of my light. They look clean in person.

So even the syringe filters should not get wet from the Lc media?
I just let them set for 2 days. There was sediment on the bottom. But after swirling them around it seems there is none. Maybe like you said it will clear that stuff up. When should I prepare a bag of shit? After day 6? I’m trying to make sure Im home.

With the myc selection I think fast and wispy throws people off. Fast and flat would be a better description imo.
Sometimes you get stuff that’s all puffed up and looks like a dome of myc which is what you don’t want.

i thilnk il have to disagree bigtime on that description if this is what ur talkn about.
cuz all those were great fruiters.
now when u say flat. this is what i think of and this is exactly what i dont look for. and thats A. and C. those r straight trash when im selecting pan growth

lol no see A and C are what I think of when I hear wispy. Maybe it’s just me.
By flat I mean the good uniform growth instead of the marshmallow stuff.
With the good myc wispy is just not a word that comes to mind for me, that makes me think of real thin growth, or like how pin mold looks.
Anyway good pan myc is pretty easy to get an eye for luckily no matter how we describe it.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to see there still some room for debate. I guess I'll keep keep culting clean and see what works best.
On second look I'll be damned if you weren't right, not just a reflection, definitely something to avoid in there.

im not to crazy about any of those actually. but if i had to ise if id go with that top left area also and the top right one arond it all except the 6 o clock area but all of that looks prettty weak. i dont like weak growth cuz it offen dont recover when its broken up to lay the trays

That’s better looking than what I got on the blue springs spore plate. Not ideal but The two at the top maybe. I had good luck with something like that with the gator strain.

Thanks. I had just the tiniest dot on the swab. I was expecting it to germinate like the wild coast did. I could not get a clear shot at the others and I had to run. The 3rd plate streaked with the same swab just had 1 spot of growth. Both of these prints I got have been very clean and I would not be where I am if they wasn’t. As I’m learning here. Thank you all for the input. I’m ready to get something in this greenhouse I got just sitting here.

Will pans do well in just a standard poo/verm/coir substrate? Better without the coco coir?

i like horse manure and straw the best and thats all i use. but some ppl may have do or have used that before but i stay as far away using coir in my pan subs at all. it seems like it lkkes to mold out faster with coir for some reason
