So actinomyces?

Could someone explain more thoroughly for me what it's and why it's not bad?:takingnotes:

Super happy it hopefully won't destroy they whole project.

But would like to know why its happens sometimes.

Actinomyces is the most common soil bacteria. It produces a ton of antibiotics and antifungals (many lab-made antibiotics come from them). They help the composting process and give decomposing organic matter the typical refreshing earthy smell.

They’re also beneficial and desired in button mushroom cultivation as a defender of the substrate as well as a food source for the agaricus.  The same is likely true for pans grown on composted or pasteurized manure/straw.

Wow this is all so fascinating!:takingnotes:I love it!

So in short. This shouldn't be any problems for most mushroom cultures?

Yeah Myco. I got record times colonizing with my pan cam culture. Even had lower temps than normal:rockon:

I'm currently working on sourcing some bacteria cultures used in spawn production of gourmets. If I can get a sample I'll be sure to share with the appropriate community members. Bacillus subtilis QST713 is at the top of my list

Have some of that on agar right now.

You know they sell these little jars with beneficial bacteria for plants at hydro stores I wonder why they don’t make something for mushroom as well. Suppose it’s just not as big of a hobby quite yet as growing plants.

What else do you use your instant pot for? I’ve never tried to sterilize grain or anything.

Agar, lc, sterilizing syringes mostly. I used it for grain the first few months no problem but it’s a year old now and I tried running grain again and it didn’t work anymore.

Plus tons of chicken and rice.

Here is the Pan Cyan Natal - one week after spawning 1/4 pint of grain to how ever many handfuls of substrate that is 🤣

Looks pretty good to me. I’m thinking case it in a couple of days?

Also question for you regular growers / old Pan Hands...
How much grain spawn do you tend to use in your substrate?

EDIT: never mind, I’m being a lazy ass, I’ll go read like a good noob should! 😂

I know many just use an LC, but what I’m wondering is ... lighter on grain spawn is better? That’s my intuition ... but it isn’t based on reading a tek somewhere.

Maybe you guys with canopies have two quarts of grain in your 17x22 trays.

What are they saying? Listen carefully, it might be something you need to hear...

i cant remember the exact length and width of these trays that i use but they are exactly 2.0 inches deep and they always contain 1lb of colonized rye berries and 5lbs of my sub which is a 60%chopped wheat straw and a 40% aged dried and shredded horse manure. then they r cased with about 1lb of my casing mix. i prefer about an 1/8th inch deep.

but i started out using a 1.2 ratio and while i did have ok results it got better when i went to a 1.4 or a 1.5 ratio. which is where im at now. i didnt notice any difference at all from 1.4 to 1.5 but im not gnna change it again cuz where im at now is perfect for me and my trays.

About to cook up some McMerdin's pan-cakes and was having a little think:

Is there any reason Asura's recipe couldn't be done in containers like McMerdin's and top fruited?

Asura's post says to PC the bags for 4 hours. Is that due to the size of the bags? If I make smaller batches can I PC then for 90-120 mins?

I’m going to try doing 1 bag at 2 hours. Should work, we will find out if I can get a lc. I went on a little road trip for a few days. I just put some wedges in last night. Now that I have supplies to do more agar and more lc jars. I need a bigger SAB! Today! Lol

Calibrating my pan myc eye: apart from leaving it alone for longer than needed, does this look good?

I like to sterilize manure/straw bulk bags for at least 3 hrs but 4 is more ideal for large bags.
