It’s crazy, I can shovel the driveway in January in a t shirt but in normal room temps I’m overheating like mad.

I'm the exact same way. Now, imagine yourself living in Texas. The whole place is like the inside of a monotub.

Get an RV water filter and hook it up to a garden hose. Cheap solution to bad water.

Dude I used to drink so much Dr Pepper and coke but then managed to switch to only water and Red Bull or coffee for over a year. I had a can of Coke yesterday morning and it was super intense. Between the carbonation and mega sweet sugar the first swig shocked me.
It’s funny how you get used to stuff.
I’ve got tap water so hard it leaves white residue when it dries and gives people kidney stones but I’ve never had a problem with cult. The one thing I try to not use it for is the fogger cuz the build up blocks the sensor after like 10 tanks.

Welp the zapodan pan culture is looking super aggressive and perfect. It was so easy to get about 5 perfect looking transfers and those are about to all go into LC tonight most likely. Also have some nec-d jumping off the spore plate and revived a GCFL and Vietnam culture from the fridge.

This evening after dinner my wife started kinda making fun of me for how long and how much money I’ve spent with no results. (2 months and amount of $ tbd)
So I showed her this plate and explained that I’m getting closer and most importantly I’m learning and having fun doing it. Without missing a beat, straight face, she said “ I want to see a stem and a fat mushroom cap, not your fuzzy little white balls”.
Ouch!!!

Hey folks... I ordered some Pan Cyan Natal South Africa from a vendor over there. They germinated quickly and it looked clean so I said what the heck and dropped that untouched MS culture into a bit of grains. Dropped those colonized grains onto some substrate to night... let’s see if anything interesting comes of it!

A couple of people seem to have done it and got fruit, I tried and got no results, however, I'm starting to think the grain spawn I used could be more to blame. And iirc jcm4620 was saying they had no luck with a straight verm casing. Asura spoke recently of using 33% coir/peatmoss/verm I think, which sounds cool as anything that reduces peat moss use is a good thing in my eyes. Angam spoke about using coir in casing also, but didn't mention amounts or what else they used.
So I think on the straight verm casing the answer is: it may work, it may not. Peat moss/verm has the most proven results, but it looks like cutting that mix with coir could also be ok.

Are you unable to get peat moss or is there something toxic or something with it that you know that we don't know? I'm only asking because I think Josex or someone has problems sourcing peat moss but they use a different type of moss instead. But if there's something in it that's making you worried then idk what to tell ya lol
Also, I think I'm seeing a pin pop through on one of these trays. I would link it but it's so tiny that I can't get a picture of it.
Also need to redesign my grow cabinet thing, the combination of FAE and humidity are creating a firefighter's wetdream in my basement. Let's hope this GFCI doesn't shit out before I come up with a solution

Maybe I have too simplistic an understanding of it, but peat moss is taken from very important landscapes, peat bogs are huge carbon stores and are very important for biodiversity. They have been already devastated in some countries. Peat bogs take a long time to form and I'm unaware of any one who is claiming to sell 'sustainable' peat moss.
Use of peat moss is a hotish topic in my country as we've all but destroyed our peat bogs and the demand is now reaching out and having an impact on peat bogs in other countries.
I'm not writing this post as a 'holier than thou' post I realise the main objective of this thread is to grow pans, not save the world. It's just an area I can't help thinking about as it's a topic that features a fair bit in my studies. It also can't hurt to, from time to time, check in and have a look at what we are using to grow mushrooms and where the materials come from.
