Lol, okay. I'm not tossing it but I'm also not trying to get the hope back that was already lost when I saw this :rofl:

Bummer, i was a bit iffy on that jar, it's been sitting for quite a while. 8 days to fully colonised. That is fast!
Not sure how it smells, or how to smell it tbh, at least without needing to toss it. Although that point is probably moot now.
I'll get another batch of grains on and nocc up more than one jar this time.

The grain jar, probably close to 3 weeks on the shelf. Pretty sure I put my wedge in last Saturday. So 7 days inoculated. Grains about 4weeks old

So, for fun I took swabs to agar from these "sporeless" pans.  I took one swab from the foil under the caps I had tried printing, and another swab from the gills of a few caps.  No germination from the foil swab, but healthy colonies from the gill swabs. It will be fun to see what I get from here.

On Wednesday I did transfers from little mason jars. I could not get a good look at the sample so I felt going into the SAB I would make T1 to a fresh agar plate and then put one in a broth. I just wanted to try it out now and get a feel for that transfer so when it really matters I can do it with confidence. When I put it in there most the myc came off wedge but I think some remained. It is hard to see because there is floaters in there. I used 2g lme 250ml distilled water. If this is not substantial better by day 6, trash it goes. Do you guys reuse plastic lids with syringe filter in them or chuck it all if it is suspect for contamination?

When you guys say pans are quick, how quick do you mean? I've got a grain master going atm but growth is a little slower than I had hoped. Definately faster than the APE culture I've got on grain but its not what i would call quick.

My pan grains;

My grain jars had been sitting for like 2/3weeks so they might've dried out a bit before being nocc'd up.
How long do you grains normally take to colonise?

On another note I'm feeling good about my first ever attempt at LC;

What are your incubation temps?
What grain did you use?
And lastly did you hydrate with tap water

It could just be the clonal cells you've scraped off the gills, but who knows. Certainly +1 for trying!

About 66 to 69°f
WBS
And yes, hydrated with tap water?

Is tap water a biggie?

I Incubate @ around 78F if you’re spawn is clean the pans will race thru the grain @ that temp, with wbs you can easily over hydrate so I def recommend only cold soaking them and My tapwater is super harsh no plants will root in it (In fact it will kill the trimmings in a day) cubes seem to be Unaffected by it if I use it to hydrate their bulk but pans seem much more likely to stall if I use it to hydrate their grain jars. I messed with it for a while and spring water consistently gives me far fewer stalls, Just saying if nothing else works it might be worth looking into.

I know some people incubate them cooler and they will still go but I found a warmer temps is going to highlight your strong strains of course if there’s anything wrong with your spawn or  or your culture contamination will show up faster but I also think that’s a good thing get them out of there

It’s a struggle for me to get temps that high but I’m definitely trying. Put some Nec D spores to agar and am feeling like a kid at Xmas! Thanks jake.

What are you using to heat? A 40w heat bulb in a work light enclosure works pretty
well if you have a controller. Might help out in that big old cold basement :lol:

I got a radiant oil heater running 24/7. Might get another one. I could turn the heat up more in the house (my gf would probably like that) but I cannot stand temps over 73 for long. I’m more comfortable around 65.

Those 40w bulbs are good if you can't heat the room. You can just point them at a tub
to keep the local environment going.

jcm, the ganges...I'm dying. Our water sucks ass too. But I drink it. I'm either going
to die next week or live to 120.
