When you guys say pans are quick, how quick do you mean? I've got a grain master going atm but growth is a little slower than I had hoped. Definately faster than the APE culture I've got on grain but its not what i would call quick.
My pan grains;

My grain jars had been sitting for like 2/3weeks so they might've dried out a bit before being nocc'd up. How long do you grains normally take to colonise?
On another note I'm feeling good about my first ever attempt at LC;

Dalcassian I’ve had a couple super quick cultures, like a week from dropping the wedge. Most of the time though they’ve been close to cube speed.
Speaking of which, yesterday I spawned the rest of my Aussie jar which was well into fruiting mode. It kind of seems like letting it consolidate made the myc thicker than before.

I also used more grain this time so I’m curious to as if the difference will be obvious.

Wonderful photos. Are you using macmerdins pan-cake recipies for those jars?

How many days is that lc and how many wedges did you put in it? Just curious, I will be making my first in a few days.

Those ones were 4/4 dry weight: millet, verm, peatmoss, straw, more recently tried same with hemp mulch instead of straw to avoid cut straw smaller and it colonized well too, next try should be millet, verm, cococoir, hemp mulch... I loved use horse poo but try to avoid home discussion about kitchen uses...

Wow cool, so 50g verm/50g peatmoss/50g straw/50g millet (weights just examples). Is the grain mixed into it all with any prepartion? Then PC the jars for 90- 120 mins? Are you casing the the usual mix of 50/50+ peat moss/verm/gypsum?

Well I'm assuming this is the beginning of the end for this tray. Looking like it wants to overlay

All mixed dry, added boiled water (a bit less than twice dry ingredient weight but could vary with humidity if I remember well I did around 2L for 1,2kg dry material) let sit few hours and jars sterilization for 90min, yes 50/50 casing.

when you say "twice dry weight" does that mean if you're using 50g like in my example you'd use 100g water? Or twice the total weight of dry? So 50g*4=200g dry weight so 400g water?
Sorry if I am over complicating this.

Cy-an-awe, I just did it like an agar transfer. So just one rice sized piece. I think it's about 10days old at this point. Like I said, I've never done LC. Josex was kind enough to explain it needed a good shake tho

I've been swirling one way then suddenly reversing the direction which seems to give it an extra good mix.

After Josex chimed in I did try swirling to break it up but the "jellyfish" as he called it, just span around. So I gave it 2 good up and down shakes. I will be swirling from now on tho as I think I read over shaking can harm the myc. I know people don't tend to shake pan grains too heavily so i guess its the same. Tbh I didn't realise you had to break up the colony from the get go, I thought only before use.

As your exemple i used something like 350ml (gr) water for 200gr of dry mix, a bit more than field capacity because ingredients are not fully cooked when filling the jars.

On another note I'm feeling good about my first ever attempt at LC;

in my experience a good healthy pan culture should colonize a qt jar within 7-8 days tops without shaking. now my jambos will kill a qt jar in 6 days from wedge drop every single time but those things are super crazy aggressive. but i would say that if your jars are ever at the 10 day mark and not 100% that you have a culture that i wouldnt even wanna use as its prolly weak and once u break it up it may not even recover. or something is wrong as in a contam of some sort.

actually now that i look at the image it looks like you have a bacterial issue goin on there as it looks wet and slimy in a few spots. that is most likely the culprit. as far as the myc goes tho that looks good. but areas around it are concerning. how does it smell?

lookin like cotton candy, can't wait to see how this one progresses!! What kind of FC is that?? Or incubator...what kind of tub is that? (pardon my noobness) Cheers, mate!
if you click the link in my sig there is my write up on my fc. as far as what i use for colonization its a propagation dome. its just sitting on top of my fc for the pic. but the write up fully explains it all.
