JCM I want to thank you for your write up. Your A-D pic of mycelium I found very useful. I can’t even begin to explain how useful that was in determining the difference between light and whispy and the weak stuff (A). You saved me much time and effort. :bow2:
Last week I poured 10 plates in SAB, my last 10 plates. I was using a whiskey bottle with no lid. Just poly and covered with foil. When I removed the foil I noticed the agar had reached the bottom of the poly. When removed some stuck to the outside of bottle but not inside. High af, I decided to continue, knowing there is a possibility these can be contam. 2 days ago I noticed small spots on unused plates. I checked the plates I made transfers to. They had it too. 1 plate Had reached a spot and I could see it stop in its tracks. Try to go around. Several of my other samples would be reaching spots soon ( within hours). I was mad, at myself. I was just going to throw everything away. Fuck it, right! Then I got back on here started reading. I read from BH. He said something in regards to jams overlay that with momentum and being ahead of the problem you can have good result. Not exact quote but that’s how I remember it. So I decided to make up some no pour jars and transfer before it reached the spots. Ahead of the problem, transfer now so there is no lost momentum. I had only 4 jars. 7 possible samples. Your pic helped me not transfer this. http://
I could not get a good pic of the others, but I believe I have saved some good stuff.
Thanks to this site and the people on it. You are all great ty. :bow2:

glad u found it helpful😃 also there is a lot of good myc pics on there to show what you want to be selecting. but if i was gnna take from the pic u posted id take a few samples from about the 3-5 o clock and the 11-12 o clock positions. but somethin just looks off with that growth. id transfer then see if that will give you good plates to use. also as for the jams overlaying it really depends on the type of culture you select and most importantly make sure your sub is 100% fully colonized. i believe that more overlay issues occur due to ppl casing too early when the myccis still in full blown chow down mode. i like to not case til about 24hrs after 100% full colonization. ive found that even that small extra consolidation time really helps keep the overlay at bay when cased.

Thanks. Not too sure how well y’all can see these. I just transferred yesterday. I think I got 3 good samples and 1 ify. The first pic I’m really excited about. It looks really light and whispy and is by far the most aggressive.

I’m out of plates until Thursday. I ordered 50 this time. Now that I have been in the SAB a few times. I’m getting more comfy and relaxed. Also ordered 2 media bottles and I’m making my work area better. I’m really excited to continue learning this craft. My next quest LC. I got all the supplies I just need to do it now.

thank guys😃 i cant wait to see some panopies also🤩🤩

im hoping il have my fcs set all the way back up and fully running by the end of this week. i had to toss 1 of the jars of jambos due to a bacterial contam but i already got a new one with a fresh wedge in it to catch up to the others. idk wtf happened there tho. thats the first jar ive lost in a while from a bacterial issue.so ima just chalk it up to shit happens🤷🏼 it prolly would have been fine i just didnt wanna chance it was all. not when i can have a new one caught up to the others in only 3 days time. but ive got some bags all ready to lay to trays here in the next few days so my goal of havin the fcs runnin with trays in them by weeks end is right on track

Well I seabed all four wild prints (tonala cube, basque de la primavera mexicana, Guadalajara pan cyan and pan sphinct.) the pan cyan is the only one that looks clean surprisingly and I did a T1 a couple days ago. The others are going to require some more cleaning. I’ll probably do another transfer on the pan cyan too though before it goes in LC. Hopefully I can get a new wild print circulating. My friend in Jalisco Mexico found all these and was nice enough to share.

Is there a formula or something for adjusting ph? I have a 6.5 reading and I don't wanna go overboard on the lime.

@chefboyarbee - I'm a complete n00b so take this with a grain of salt, but if those were my plates I would take a transfer from 3 and 9 o'clock in the first picture. I may be completely and totally wrong but I like looking at plates and picturing where I would take a transfer from and see how far off I am when the TCs chime in. It's kinda like watching Jeopardy from home but it helps me learn lol. Cheers, mate!

Pretty sure I took 1 each from those spots. I also took a sample from a wispier but faster section. I also did a plate with 3 transfers to 2 seperate plates for the 2 spots in the middle picture. It looks too good to be true but hey then I'll know

ya the pics are kinda hard to really see but not the worst ive ever had to work with so if they were my plates this is what i would do. id take several transfers from along the leading edges if the yellow highlighted areas. that last plate while i do c a cpl spots that if i was completely desperate id take from but givin that you have plenty of good workable growth there i wouldnt even open that plate. it actually looks suspect of mold to me and id just toss it. but you have plenty to work with there.
just keep in mind this is only what i would do. your free to do what ever it is u feel like u wanna do. im just simply sayin that if this was mine thats what id do🤷🏼

Nice Glitch! BVI was one of those that I tried during my months of fail
over the summer. I do have a culture stored and want to try it again.
Good luck man.

This jar of spawn is just going for it climbing the glass. It’s been sitting for like a month now ever since I spawned the Aussie tubs. I’m about to spawn it and see what happens. Last time I did this it instamolded but this jar looks clean still.

These other small trays I made did some weird stuff. This one in particular has been having extreme swings in fae and humidity. Kinda looks like they’ve been beaten so bad they turned to leather. Definitely looks nothing like the healthy ones.

I just pulled the third flush off the shoebox, small but still decent sized. This is the only pan tub I’ve done that’s had virtually no aborts.
