Lots of pinsets posted in the last few days. I need pics! They must be close to mature by now guys, don't hold out
How do Pans do to fruit from quart PP5 containers in a mono? Any of you tried it? Wasn't sure if that deep of a sub would be a major issue or not.
Also any of you guys messed around with straw/coir? Wasn't sure if the straw would make up for lack of poo. I have hpoo, but if straw and coir works well enough, I will avoid trying to dry and save up hpoo before it snows.
Anyways. Back into cult. Took a long break unforunately. Haven't done much since the beginning of the year. Pan cyan HI and Pan cambo are just germinated. Going to do a transfer on them tonight and hopefully get them to spawn by next weekend.

Congrats, Looks like you have a lot more coming!
I've read quite a few threads over the past 6 months where everything looked fine but Pans refused to fruit.
Is that Goliath? What were the grow parameters?

Fucking mice got into my pan cambo tray.
The casing layer had been completely dug up and there's half eaten grain kernels everywhere.

I read that straw can be used instead of poo with good results, not sure if it does as good as on poo though. Coir on it's own will still fruit but yields will suffer.
I would still try to get my paws on hpoo if I were you, it's the go-to sub for pans, no matter how you spin it. That way, if straw and coir doesn't give you the results you were looking for, you can have something good to use. Try looking for store poo if you have trouble finding field aged.

Yeah I'll definitely be using hpoo for the next few grows. But as far as winter goes I'm not all that keen on storing it. I had hpoo go rancid on me last winter and it ruined my pan cinctulus grow . Trying to figure out a better storage method. But if straw and coir gives say 75 percent of the yield of hpoo id just go that route. If it was less I would suck it up and try to store some hpoo.

Are you storing it dry and indoors? Dry poo shouldn't really decompose any further so maybe I'm thinking that it was either left outside or it was stored inside but not entirely dry.

Yeah it was stored in an outdoor shed.
Maybe it would work better to break it up and let it sun dry before storing. This time I will try and put it in my garage or something. I really don't want it in my house...

If it's really damp where you live, you could dry it in an oven and keep it in a tote or something. Not really sure where "don't want it in the house" is coming from, field aged poo is not like having a fresh turd in the house. Field aged poo is similiar to dry peat or coir. There is no piss or shit smell. Actually, if you have either of those it basically means that it was either not leached propely or it was not dried properly, respectively.

I put a container of damp rid desiccant in my 5 gallon bucket of mostly dry cow poo to remove the last bit of moisture from it.

Yeah I guess I just need to quit being lazy about it
Five gallon bucket with a lid and desiccant is a good idea. That should be fine in a garage.
I need to find a better way to shred it. I think that was ultimately my problem. I always just break it up by hand.

That works although it's a bit overkill. It doesn't need to be as dry as active mushrooms so I find oven drying is great for keeping it. Just as long as it's dry enough to not grow any bacteria or molds, it will not break down. I don't even store it in airtight containers or anything and I live in a very very humid environment, especially inside.

Horse poo is certainly way easier to shred than cow poo from collected cow pies. Try sifting it thru 1/4 inch hardware cloth. My sifted horse poo just looks like brown finely chopped straw, my sifted cow poo looks like VERY finely chopped straw.
If you can stomach the idea of spreading the horse poo on something and drying it in the oven that is the best way. I didn't want to put it in the oven so I used desiccant.
Desiccant helps BUT when I put it on top of a mostly full bucket of poo- it didn't dry the stuff at the bottom of the bucket, i.e..- you have to move the poo around to get it all dry.
In hindsight I should have spread it out in a tote and put the desiccant in there.

People and their phobia about something that used to be shit. Newsflash: everytime you grab some compost with your bare hands, you are basically touching rotten food and probably even all kinds of manure. I bet you don't think twice about grabbing a handful of compost though, do you? That's because something that was disgusting, doesn't stay disgusting forever. Poo is the same, just because it was a turd in the past doesn't mean it will be a turd forever.
I mean shit, what's so disgusting about crumbling field aged poo by hand? It's literally the same as dirt, which basically penetrates every orfice and crevice in your body the second that you step outside. Just because you can't feel, taste or see the microscopic dirt that is blown into your nose/mouth every single second, doesn't mean it's not happening.
Grow a pair folks.

I break it up by hand. I don't use gloves. I understand what horse shit is, I just wasn't happy with how mine lasted over winter and wanted to know how some of you guys do it.
Mostly I don't want it in my house because of space...
Thanks mary, I will pick that up. Should work pretty well for the amount I plan to do.

yes, it is goliath..and i keep my greenhouse at about 75F because i also have mexicanae going or i would keep it closer to 80f. the substrate is pasteurized straw, some really nice store bought manure compost from a hydroponics shop(the best manure ive ever found honestly), a little vermiculite and a little coir, ohh and gypsum...ive lowered humidity to about 90% for maturing them;) ohh and believe me, ive had my fair share of failures with pan cyan's...more than i care to admit haha..i would highly recommend trying goliath for anyone in this situation! i will be doing a giveaway once i stock some prints of these guys k
