You know I actually saw a study on panaeolus cyanescens a couple weeks ago (legit study) on different substrates and cow shit took the lead. Now there was no reference to the sources of said shit varieties but the three used were cow, horses and rabbit I think may have been the third.

The NPK values for horse and cow are really close, with cow being lower across the board. I'd give cow a go if I could find a supply.

Wonder if it has to do with cows being grain fed. I bet grass fed cows would be best though

I use composted cow manure mixed with fine verm. I think the initial sub hydration is a huge deal with pans and prob manure in general. Too much and it gets muddy and compresses under its own weight.

i've used wild horse manure before and it worked fine but i'm going to give composted cow manure a try after hearing about aka's success because wondering around looking for turds in the wilderness is harder than it sounds.

My fave is 50/50 cow and horse if they are both nice and fluffy but rarely do I have both of them around at the same time at optimal consistency

Plus at least for me the composted manure is $2.50 for 50lbs. Unbeatable.
So I guess I’m joining the ranks of people with shit Aussie trays.

Hopefully the shoebox does better since it grew into the casing a little more.

I cased an RDU clone tray and a Rainbow Eucalyptus clone tray yesterday and the mycelium started popping through already so I popped them in the fruiting chamber. The shoebox in the middle is a Natalensis along for the ride.
Sounds like a few of you are not having the best of luck with the RDU. Mine took about twice as long as other pans to start pinning.

Mine have all been 3-4 days so far but I’m sure it can be weeks same as cubes.

Pans are pretty fast in terms of germination and ratio of germination. I have had some slow before that took a week. Depends a lot on freshness and the date is rarely written on the prints you receive.

personally pans never give me the trip ruining brick in the gut. but now cubes thats a different story. fuckin 8 grams of cubes even in a tea kills my stomach to the point its totally not even an enjoyable experience but 2.0 grams of pans in capsules or even using fresh fruits for a tea dont bother me at all. the gut rot was the main reason i started only eating pans. well that and the fact that the trip is way better.

im glad to be back man😃👍 i just had a shit ton of home repair work that had been put off far too long and i decided to just dive in and get it all done while i was already shut down for cleaning. i still dont have my fcs back up and running yet but i will by next week. ive got some of my jambos and some rdu on grain right now so i will be doing those first as i need a cpl killer trays of my jambos to replenish my personal stash as i have been hitting it pretty hard lately lol on another note tho i took my first and only 3.0 gram trip last weekend and that was way beyond insanity so ima just stick with my normal 2.0 which is still a ride but that 3 was a bit much

I'm going to give cpoo a shot. horse manure pellets are rubbish to work with. And while my grows are going ok I think, I don't want to keep using pellets.
I'm also feeling a bit silly calling stables when I have cattle literally out my front door.
Good news as well, I put some of one of my LCs on to agar and it's looking cleeaann.

Just out of curiosity, what was your experience with horse manure pellets? Was wondering awhile back if it was something worth exploring.

Well I'm sure there are different types out there, I ended up with a bag of this stuff:

It's HARD. So far it seems like the best thing to do is to soak the pellets for a good long while. I tried boiling water, I tried crushing them, ect. But just leaving them for a number of hours in warm water is best.
From reading around it seems people say not to use them at more than 10% of your sub. So I mixed one batch up using volume, however, I think that's wrong. I have some jars of that batch that were PC'd and nocd with LC. But I don't have high hopes.
I then made a batch that has the sub components measured by weight, which ended up being very little of the manure pellets. I pasturised it and spawned some rye to that mix, which is look ok, but I didn't measure things out too well so the grain:sub ration is way off.
Finally I made a third batch, again with weights, 50% straw, 40% verm, ~10% manure pellets. I pasturise that and again spawned rye to it with a better looking ratio.
I've got three more LCs that are ready to go. So my current plan is to try to follow an actual tek. I'm going to try cow poo, as that's easy for me to get. And I'm in the process of tracking down a stable that has a muck heap. Most them round me get their manure taken by a farmer while it's fresh.

Thanks. Good info there. I think I'll stick to good field-aged horse poo for now, which I fortunately have available. I've used straw pellets in my mix for awhile now. As you suggested, I have to keep it at a low percentage to avoid a huge sloppy mess. I've been using, roughly by volume, 50% horse manure, 30% verm, 20% straw pellets. Works out alright, for the most part.
