Similar set ups have worked.

I did the same thing with the casing my first couple times but if you give it a couple days after the surface is colonized and then case it won’t grow in as much.

Is your casing just verm?

The first one was coir/verm 50/50, now the second time i used 20/80, hoping that the myc doesnt eat all of it because of the verm..

Guess i'll have to wait to see..

I think these are pan sandose fruitng invitro in cold weather I left this in my kitchen where its about 65ish... How could I print these? i tried the are to thin lol swab maybe? I was under the impression they cant fruit this way or very rarely do. Am i just better off cloning and fruiting again? This is my 1st go with this species.

Those don't look like Pans tbh. Looks like Mycena pins to me, lol.

I did try to hybridzie sandose and goliath this came out of one of the the jars they have a black spore print also i cloned it there was only 2 fruits and this is what i got. If its mycena then it germinated in there somehow. I did mix some pan spawn and truffle spawn maybe it hortizontal gene shift? I dont remember which one it was in for sure but I'm like 99% certain nothing else germinated in the jar. Ok well I'm cloning it anyway i'll report back with results. dam I wish I had koh

A Water Tub will undoubtedly be the best option for fruiting miniature/small substrates such as cakes. I'm fruiting cakes in this setup all the time and I don't even have to mist the cakes. I believe not needing to mist several times a day can only increase the success rate, especially with these 'finicky' species that don't seem to tolerate stress as easy as cubes. I'm yet to fruit Pans but I know for sure that cakes and Water Tubs go hand in hand

After several plates and streaks later, I'm finally having some bisporus growth. Do you think I'm on to something here?

Still waiting on the cambo. Is it a think to restreak plates that down take the first time? What's this I seem to remember reading about hot pouring agar on spores to get them to germinate? Or was it covering with a square? Should I just no up a small grain jar? Thanks for the help, I'm really pushing hard to work with these.

Hey guys
Im trying to cultivate my first pans.. Jamaica
i've got some spores, make some transfers in agar, got a clean culture and make a LC.
Inoculated the grains and after full colonization, spawned it to 40/30/30 Manure/Coir/Verm.. in little trays.
In 2 days it was fully colonized.. so i pasteurize some verm/coir and use it as a casing layer..
After 1 day, the casing was totally colonized
So i applied some more.. and now im waiting to fruit..

I also have inoculated a few cakes with manure in the recipe, MacMerdins style, and put it in the same place..

I have SGFC but no perlite, so i found some aquarium bubblers in my closet and put it in there, with a line of water in the bottom..
What do you think?

This is a good setup? It will fruit?

You way want to lay down a thick layer of perlite or coir to create more humidy in that chamber.

In the small amount of reading I have done regarding cultivation of Pan species, they suggest NOT using coir as a casing layer because the mycelium will colonize it and create heavy overlay which leads to a trich infection.

I read that peat/verm should be the correct casing layer.

Stonesun's write ups refer to 50/50+ which I'm guessing is 1:1 peat moss and verm right? Is the + gypsum?

From this pic it looks like a Coprinoid of sorts.

Took 5 T1's of my pan cyan yesterday, horse poo and a bale of hay arrived today hopefully it won't be long and I can start prepping some grain.
When pasturising, how long do you guys let it sit before use? Is 2/3 days enough?

Oh right, i thought the idea was to let the good microbes colonize for a bit before using as a substrate.

Either way works.

Idk about you guys but mine smells incredibly funky after sitting for a few days. It works great though.

I don’t think the problem is lack of humidity.. there is always little particles of water shining all over the casing layer..
But still it keeps colonizing it, FUACK

Ok cool, maybe I'll give both a go, although side by side comparisons can be bit pointless if they're ms.

I was watching the RR videos and he just layers the spawn and sub in the trays but most people here seem to spawn to bulk in bags then breakup and lay trays.

Is there a benefit to spawning in bags as opposed to doing it on the tray?
